Dog gone after burglary, boy heartbroken

2012-11-27 09:45

Johannesburg - A 7-year-old boy has been left heartbroken after finding that his dog disappeared following a burglary at his family’s home in Roodepoort.

Dewan Grobler was already sad about his bike being stolen but when he realised his best friend was also missing, he couldn’t hold back the tears, reported Beeld.

Asjas, a 1-year-old Dachshund who also went by the name of AJ was always with Dewan and they were inseparable.

The burglary happened on Friday and the boy’s father, Riaan Grobler, said they immediately knew something was wrong when they got back on Friday evening and saw the gate was open and gardening equipment was lying in the front garden.

The burglar bars of one of the bedroom windows had been ripped open and the family’s TV, DVD player, kettle and bathroom scale were missing as well as jewellery.

But then they saw that the dog was missing too.

“Dewan’s heart is broken,” said Grobler.

He said the dog was like a friend to his son who was a single child.

Grobler said they hoped the dog had just slipped out the gate and had been picked up by someone.

They hoped the robbers hadn’t taken the dog too.

“That is a horrible thought,” said Grobler.

      Gift, SHUT THE **** UP!!!!!

      michael.i.wright - 2012-11-27 11:38

@Gift, we have to put up with reading from you, dog stories are a cinch.

      ever.ryman - 2012-11-27 11:48

Gift: I really, really, REALLY hope you do not, have ever had, or ever will , get a dog. You clearly have no idea what it means to have a dog in your life. There is a little boy out there, doubly traumatised by the robbery at his home and the loss of his best friend, and all you can do is whinge about reading dog stories. Some of us, unlike you, care. News for you: dogs have more honesty, loyalty and love in one of their toenails than the vast majority of humans. Get a life.

      robin.bradley.9803 - 2012-11-27 11:49

      gerda.vanrooyen.39 - 2012-11-27 13:35

@Gift, can I add something? I'm going to anyway. It is the people who listens to people like Malema etc, that caused all this sorrow to this innocent little boy BECAUSE they cannot keep their filthy paws off other people's property! Do me a favour, go and listen to this scum and don't waste our time. If you want to read about Mangaung and all that, I strongly suggest you look for such headings in the news!! IDIOT!

  • gerda.vanrooyen.39 - 2012-11-27 09:57

I pray that they will find Asjas. Stay strong little one. I'm sure that someone will find your little friend.

Hey Gift, come play with my rottie, i will show you what a dog is about..

      ever.ryman - 2012-11-27 11:57

Gift: you ask, what is a dog? Short answer: If had the choice of saving you or a dog from a burning building, you can be very sure that the dog would be the one who got out.

  • willbeonekenobi - 2012-11-27 09:59

I hope that the boy's friend is found soon for his sake. I hope that the dog just slipped out and not stolen.

  • ohattingh - 2012-11-27 10:00

This is awful, I'm really holding thumbs that this boy's little friend will make his way back home... and that the criminals make thier way to a 2 x 2m prison cell... or preferably an electric chair...

  • nicrsa - 2012-11-27 10:05

  • charlesdumbwin.dumbwin - 2012-11-27 10:06

If we can sort out crime in this country, we'd have the best place in the world! Crime is the disease that's killing our nation. In all forms.

  • briana.scott - 2012-11-27 10:10

Hope this story has a happy ending like the Boksburg doggie who has been found

  • jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-11-27 10:42

This is so sad. I can't imagine anyone taking one of my two best friends. Poor little guy, I really hope his dog is returned to him, after all he already lost his bike. What a lesson to teach a seven year old, adults steal. We are in the pits in South Africa. The amount of burglaries where we live is horrendous and at any given time there are only two police cars patrolling the whole town. I wonder what Helen Zille has to say about that, will ask her

      flysouth - 2012-11-27 10:58

I assure you that Helen Zille would have much the same to say as you and I - she would condemn the inaction and ineffectiveness of police in all cases of crime where 'important' people are not the targets! However, unless you and many others actually come to realise that without your voting the DA into power, when they can change things dramatically across the board through having and exercising that power of government, then nothing can change under the ANC! We have learned the uselessness of our present govermment over almost 20 years - how much more 'learning' do we need to take the necessary action?

  • zelda.dickson - 2012-11-27 10:52

How very sad. I hope somebody has found him.

  • jay.sean.792197 - 2012-11-27 11:18

      ever.ryman - 2012-11-27 11:49

Don't insult animals by describing this scum as animals.

      robin.bradley.9803 - 2012-11-27 11:50

Rapping?? I know they cant sing but surely rapping is not a crime.. lol

  • marlenepilay - 2012-11-27 11:19

  • bernard.nienaber - 2012-11-27 12:18

    who steals a bathroom scale?

  • glen.e.huysamer - 2012-11-27 12:40

I feel for this family....and the boy....and the dog..... I also feel for all of us in South Africa...?...that the fact that the emphasis here is the dog and the boy (as it should be) but that the fact that somehow the reality of the fact that a burglary happened is in some strange way pushed to the back of our psychic as if it is 'normal'.... I was broken into the other day, they came in through the roof.........when I told friends and colleagues.....there were very few that were shocked, actually none at all..... the weirdest thing that everybody said.... was "well thank your lucky stars nobody was home and everybody was safe and unhurt"" Have we all gone mad???? This has become our normality????!!!!!

  • olivia.duplessis.1 - 2012-11-27 13:03

Sadly in Gauteng dogs and cats are stolen to be eaten. I have a Daschund and I truly hope this is not this dogs fate.

  • gerda.vanrooyen.39 - 2012-11-27 13:41
