Driver in court over 6 deaths

Durban - A man accused of killing six people when he lost control of his car appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

The matter was postponed to March 2.

Mzuphilile Gadu, 24, was driving down Clark Road in Durban when he apparently lost control of the car and crashed into a tree in May last year.

ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said at the time that paramedics found the seven occupants strewn across the road.

Five women and a man died on the scene.

Gadu was charged with culpable homicide.

This guy deserves to be locked up, seriously have you seen Clark road?! And he was doing 160KM down it! Lock him and throw away the key, 6 people died because this fool was showing off in daddy's BMW!

      Patrick - 2012-02-02 14:26

Please excuse me, 135km, not 160km.

didnt read the original article but if the accident happened like you say , i then agree harsh punishment

I agree; it does seem that the deceased were not wearing seatbelts - candidates for the Darwin awards.

What type of car was it? ... 7 people? In a car? Was it an SUV or a bakkie? Anyone with the link to the original article?

      Patrick - 2012-02-02 15:38

To my knowledge it was a BMW M3.

      Thanks Patrick.

As far as I am concerned, the driver should be found guilty and jailed. 5-person seating arrangement, 5 people in the car - end of discussion. If you put any more in then you are overloading / bypassing the design of the vehicle and endangering not only yourself but your passengers as well.

Was he DUI? If so he should be charged with murder.

So if this Thuli Madonsela's son driving her state vehicle, the bunch of bloody hypocrates must stfu and praise the driver for whatever reason. The double standards of some people on here is amazing.

Thuli only killed a few bricks. That is the difference

      Troll Alert!!!!!!

      modo - 2012-02-02 15:09

Gary, how can you even try and compare the two scenarios?? It is impossible to equate the two and of course they deserve different standards of judgement. Have you never had a minor car accident in your life? Does everyone who causes a minor accident deserve the same punishment as a speeding, reckless driver of a car in which six people died. Stop being ridiculous.
