Johannesburg - A man has been arrested for allegedly manufacturing and dealing drugs in Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

The man, 51, was found in possession of a substance believed to be cocaine with an estimated street value of more than R1m, police spokesperson Kay Makhubela said.

He said unknown tablets, chemicals and equipment used to manufacture drugs, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash were also seized in extension one, Orange Farm on Tuesday morning.

The man's friend, 38, was also arrested after offering police a bribe of R38 000 to release the man.

The two would appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court soon: the first on charges of manufacturing, possession and dealing of drugs, and the second on charges of bribery.

Two other men, aged 32 and 33, were arrested in the parking lot of the Orange Farm mall on Tuesday morning for being in possession of diamonds and a police appointment certificate believed to have been used for impersonating an officer, Makhubela said.

The men were at the mall to meet with a British man who was expected to buy the precious stones. It was not clear what the estimated value of the diamonds was, he said.

The pair would appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court soon on charges of possession and dealing in diamonds and impersonating a police officer.
