Drunk men thrown out of Kruger Park

2012-06-18 13:48

Johannesburg - A group of men has been thrown out of the Kruger National Park because of drunkenness, the park said on Monday.

Spokesperson William Mabasa said four men travelling in a minibus arrived at the park's Phalaborwa Gate, in Limpopo, on Sunday.

"They told the security officials that they were there to visit an employee who resides in one of the park's villages," he said.

Mabasa said the men were allowed to enter free of charge, but the guards noticed later that they had not driven to the village where the employees stay.

"The men were located around the park and brought back to the gate where they were requested to pay a conservation fee, which they did," said Mabasa."

At this point, the guards noticed the visitors were not sober, and told them to leave.

"We could not refund the men their money because they had to pay for the time they had spent inside the park," Mabasa said.

Good for you Kruger Park !!!

  • charlesdumbwin.dumbwin - 2012-06-18 14:04

What's with all the drunkeness at the Klipdrift National Park?

      Chumscrubber1 - 2012-06-18 18:04

A new type of person unfortunately now uses the place as venue for weekend "jols". You should see the litter on the sides of the roads - typically South African behaviour unfortunately.

  • Stille - 2012-06-18 14:05

Should have banned them as well...well done.

  • tom.vorster - 2012-06-18 14:10

Geez, no wonder that poachers have free reign - you simply let the 4 guys in because they have a friend who resides in the park? Howcome when I visit my friends who work there, they have to make prior arrangements with the gate and have a special permit issued specifically for me and with my vehicle registration?

      cliff.slabbert - 2012-06-18 14:27

Very good question PaasHaas - lets see if they can answer that one! Not holding my breath though.

      isabel.w.stokes - 2012-06-18 16:54

      Because you're white?

      Chumscrubber1 - 2012-06-18 18:06

Thanks Isabel, its so exhausting having to be politically correct all the time. The truth is so much simpler.

  • Pixionamission - 2012-06-18 14:16

They should have called the cops cause they were driving drunk! Irresponsible people driving drunk killing innocent people!

  • Kathleen - 2012-06-18 14:20

Well done guardss, but why were you taken in at the gate by a story that seemed to have no back up. They should have been held for the police to arrive to book the driver for drunken driving. Hopefully they will be banned from the Park for all time.

Can someone, anyone at news24 tell me " HOW THE HELL THIS STORY IS NEWS?"

      charlesdumbwin.dumbwin - 2012-06-18 14:23

I hear you, but there's not much else happening right now. I saw skidmarks inside a public toilet this morning that was bigger than this story.

      cliff.slabbert - 2012-06-18 14:31

Why did you read it then?

      simon.davies.12382 - 2012-06-18 14:32

@Charles. You are onto something there my friend. Take photos and send through to The surface area of the skid mark in question should be larger than this story. Is that what you are implying? Lets wait for the breaking news section to come up but this might land up on CNN. Great job

      fussed.anderson - 2012-06-18 14:36

No he read between the lines

      gladstone.dyonase - 2012-06-18 14:47

@simon. Wow such a long boring, useless reply to Charles. Where as its you who complain about unecessary news.

      Cassandra Eileen Olivier - 2012-06-18 14:48

Why did u read the story dim wit

      daryltt - 2012-06-18 14:56

Sadly it is so much more interesting to read than working...

      Stille - 2012-06-18 16:38

So you want it to make news when a drunk driver slams into a car killing the family inside? This is news. Now FO.

      Chumscrubber1 - 2012-06-18 18:10

Is the only news you are interested in the constant failures of the ANC? Or perhaps just the sport section. You have a right to choose what you read, to many this is interesting, its about life in our country. I find the celebrity section mindless and boring (normally), but it is hugely entertaining to many.

  • cliff.slabbert - 2012-06-18 14:32

Why did you let them in in the first place?

  • vanessa.b.gueli - 2012-06-19 13:19 would be proper news if it had been reported as it happened!!! See's response!

      dean.duplessis.756 - 2012-06-19 15:55

Story does not fit what happened. there more than 4 men, women too. I witnessed the tourist telling the full taxi to go to Phalaborwa gate, at Sable Dam. No Sanparks officials were at the dam where the incident occurred. The tourist took photos of the taxi at the dam. Check the camera footage at Phalaborwa gate.

Fantastic - all the wank...s who insist on throwing their bottles out of vehicles are the reason why I can't have a beer while at a watering hole but I'm ok with that. We counted 8 Savannah bottles in a stretch of less than 1km near Olifants - absolute disgrace!!
