Duck-watching motorist causes East Rand pile-up

2012-01-06 21:19

Johannesburg - A total of 17 people were injured in a multiple car pile-up on the N12 in Ekurhuleni on Friday, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Andre Visser said nine cars were involved in the pile-up after a motorist pulled over to watch ducks.

He said four people had broken bones while the rest sustained minor cuts and bruises.

Ekurhuleni metro police earlier said 26 cars were involved in the pile up but later said there were only six cars involved.

Meanwhile Superintendent Vusi Mabanga said 14 people were injured in the accident with four in a serious condition.

He said the first collision involved a taxi and a small vehicle.

The next few collisions were caused by drivers being distracted by the accident scene.

Mabanga said one car crashed into a metro police vehicle which was attending the scene.

Marijuana Smokers are more responsible, How many times have you heard of someone getting pulled over for being high on marijuana? Exactly. Marijuana is a vegetable, Get over it.

      Squeegee - 2012-01-07 16:33

Only a dopehead can turn a story about an accident into a pro-weed rant.

  • Getafix - 2012-01-07 08:06

  • Trevor - 2012-01-07 09:01

    What a poorly written report.

  • Shirley - 2012-01-07 09:07

This report doesnt make sense! If he "pulled over" how did so many vehicles manage to run into one another? Were the ducks naked? All sounds a bit far south!

  • Ralph - 2012-01-07 09:18

From the confusing article: 1. A motorist PULLED OVER - thus not on the road. 2. The first accident involved a small car and a TAXI. 3. Then an unknown number of cars crashed, probably rubbernecking. Now the question: 1. Was there actually ducks? 2. Did the taxi or the car pull over to watch "ducks"? 3. Did the taxi hit the cars on or OFF the road? 4. Did the car hit the taxi on or off the road? My take on this is the car pulled over to the side of the road. Thetaxi sped on the side of the road and hit the car. This caused the multicar pileup due to rubbernecking.

      Chum Scrubber - 2012-01-07 14:16

My conclusion - duck watcher innocent, taxi guilty. How unusual for an accident to be caused by a taxi ...

  • Assis - 2012-01-07 10:05

This when the f replaced the d in the word duck...does this mean 75% of the word duck is fowl word?

  • Ant138 - 2012-01-07 14:22

    Just Daffy !

  • Maximus Odinidus - 2012-01-07 15:33

My guess is Mr duck pulled into the yellow lane to watch the ducks and we all know that, that is the dedicated taxi lane these days. Roast duck in banana sauce anyone?

  • Frank - 2012-01-07 18:17

Must have been watching the two Kallis ducks in Durban!!
