Cape Town - Two men were arrested at a house in Fordsburg on Sunday afternoon for allegedly kidnapping a man five weeks ago.

The duo, aged 28 and 29, were arrested by Johannesburg Central police after they allegedly abducted the 23-year-old victim, police spokesperson Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele confirmed in a statement.

"Relatives of the victim came today [Sunday] to report the case after receiving a private call demanding a ransom of R20 000," he said.

A resident tipped off the authorities on the whereabouts of the victim.

"Police rushed to the house and did their observations. The house was locked," Mbele said.

Two men then arrived and police entered the house.

"They found the victim in a weak state and exhausted. An ambulance was [called] and took the victim to hospital."

The two suspects will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon, Mbele added.
