Durban - A man was killed and a family of four were injured on Friday when their vehicles collided on the N2, north of Durban, paramedics said.

"The driver of one car was flung from his vehicle and died on impact," Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said.

When paramedics arrived on the scene they found a couple and two girls, aged between five and 10, injured. The woman was critically injured.

One driver reportedly veered from his lane and pushed onto oncoming traffic.

"The two vehicles collided and skidded out-of-control."

All four patients were treated and stabilised at the scene.

They were transported to Netcare's The Bay Hospital for further care.
