Cape Town - Six Durban fishermen had to be rescued on Sunday afternoon after a spring high tide cut them off from the mainland.
The anglers had walked across to Pelican Island, near the Bluff Yacht Club, during low tide to fish, said National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon.
Although they were not in imminent danger, they asked the NSRI to take them back to the mainland rather than waiting until much later on Sunday for low tide.
“The group had reportedly only caught one small fish during their fish trip,” Lambinon said.
The group, between the ages of seven and 59, were taken back to shore in a sea rescue craft.
