Durban - A Durban man is fighting for his life after he was hit by a passenger train in Redhill, Durban, on Sunday.

Crisis Medical spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said the man, understood to be in his fifties, was hit by the train near a popular fruit and vegetable market on North Coast Road.

“Paramedics arrived on scene to find the man lying on the railway line having sustained serious injuries.

“Advanced life support intervention was administered and the man was stabilised on scene before being taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care. The cause of the incident and the facts surrounding it are unclear and an investigation will be done,” he said.

Van Reenen said rail traffic was not obstructed while emergency service personnel cleared the scene.
