Durban metro police demand boss' head

2011-12-14 14:33

Durban - Samwu members have called for eThekwini Municipality metro police head Eugene Nzama to be replaced.

"We demand that the post of the head be advertised and a competent candidate be appointed as soon as possible," read a memorandum the SA Municipal Workers’ Union submitted to the municipality on Wednesday.

Scores of metro police officers picketed outside police headquarters on Wednesday and submitted their memorandum to councillor Zandile Gumede.

Samwu questioned why Nzama’s contract was not advertised.

It also called for two metro police officials to be suspended pending the investigation into their qualifications and the abuse of council property.

The union accused Nzama of allowing police officers who abused council cars by fetching their children from schools and doing groceries.

Nzama was not immediately available to comment.

There is a little park behind the Bill Buchanna Home for the Aged, down below Burman Bush. Any day of the week from 12 or so you will find a theft of metro cops braaing and sitting around. In uniform, with Metro Vehicles parked on the grass. They should all be fired.

Rotten bunch, ask previous Mayor Mahlaba regarding illegal contracts and corrupt behaviour. Wonder what happened to those cases?

I think it's time that the citizens of Durban to demand a replacement ! not only the union. One just have to look at the way our city is managed by the metro police to see how bad it really is.

Bye eugene, don't let the door hit you in the @ss on the way out! you can't treat people like you have for ever, how many decent metro officers have you helped leave the force so you can sit with all the corrupt and loyal members to your little empire?

Excellent collective noun goyou...."a theft of metro cops". Has a nice ring to it, for this bunch of oxygen thieves.

Fantastic that the rank and file Metro cop wants to root out corruption and ineptitude. I do believe that the majority of them are good cops, trying to do a decent job, but undermined by these unqualifed idiots.

Eugene Nzama, ha ha ha a joke of an official, protected by both the ANC and unions, an incompetent wanna be leader, finally the unions have seen that their political appointee has been pulling the wool over their eyes ! ! ! !

Surprise, surprise! Guess who did NOT want to answer their phones last night! WHO do we call now - or do we resort to sorting out our problems ourselves? I'd LOVE to hear what their "explanation" (if any will be forthcoming) will be ...
