Durban – The eThekwini Municipality will meet residents from the Ridge View transit camp after they burnt tyres and barricaded the N2 highway on Monday morning.

The city’s head of communications Tozi Mthethwa said on Monday that about 400 disgruntled community members from ward 29 took to the streets demanding adequate houses.

“The residents, who didn’t have a written memorandum, were demanding that they be moved from the interim shelter that they are currently occupying.

"They also demanded government houses, or that the eThekwini Municipality allow them to erect shacks,” said Mthethwa.

It is not clear when the city will meet the resident but Mthethwa said municipal officials, Durban Metro Police and the police attended to the matter.
