East London - A man was arrested after his girlfriend was fatally stabbed in Willowvale, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.

Captain Jackson Manatha said the 19-year-old woman was stabbed in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

"It is alleged that the two were enjoying New Year celebrations when they quarrelled about something," said Manatha.

The man drew his knife and stabbed the woman in her upper body. She died at the scene. Police found the 34-year-old alleged killer at the scene with the suspected murder weapon. He was arrested.

He would appear before the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Is the Eastern Cape genuinely part of our Rainbow Nation? Sounds like a Province in Central Africa. Says a lot, about what citizens think, of Law and Order! Absolutely diabolical!

And instead of a quick execution like in botswana he will go retire for 25 years in the big hotel which I the taxpayer must pay for. Why don't we export all our criminals to botswana and rather pay them to execute them. Would save us a lot of money that could be used to educate and feed law abiding citizens.

Don't u just adore our democratic country. Even murderers have rights, though they took out the first fundamental right of all from another person. The right to live.
