West Rand motorists warned of delivery protest

2014-01-17 09:40

Johannesburg - Residents of Princess informal settlement in Roodepoort on the West Rand continued their protest action on Friday, Gauteng police said.

The demonstrations started on Tuesday, with protesters demanding better service delivery and houses.

Warrant Officer Nonhlanhla Khumalo said police were monitoring the situation and no arrests had been made.

Metro police closed off Main Reef and Corlett roads in the area as the protesters threw stones at passing cars.

"It is not safe for motorists to drive through that area," said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

"They can use Ontdekkers road as an alternative route."

It is because N24 is based in Cape Town and they have no clue as to how Jo'burg is laid out... they just sit on the beaches in Paarl and sip their wine!!! ;)

      michael.tetley.35 - 2014-01-17 10:20

Paarl is inland and does not have any beaches!

      Willy Deville - 2014-01-17 10:31

Wine is Paarl, though. OMG, i can do with a lot of that now.

      michael.tetley.35 - 2014-01-17 10:34

Why the thumbs down turkey's. Consult a map. It's pretty obvious.

      Dick Turpin - 2014-01-17 11:02

I know Paarl doesn't have any beaches.. that was the entire point of my post... just like Roodepoort is in the West Rand... NOT East!!!!

  • Staal Van Der Bergh - 2014-01-17 10:22

  • Stewart Mackay - 2014-01-17 10:36

I obviously got taught very different Geography at school.... Damn that old syllabus

  • Sapper_Coetzee - 2014-01-17 10:44

Arrest them all for infringing on others constitutional rights. Or is freedom of movement conditional? If I have to pass there I have every right to do so or not? And the police must ensure the safety of the law abiding citizen.

  • Khaba Njabulo Mkhize - 2014-01-17 10:47

But I thought Princess was in the East Rand??

      Willy Deville - 2014-01-17 11:06

      Joe, Minora sharp! Hahaha

  • Merle Jackson - 2014-01-17 10:56

I live close to that informal settlement and must say they those people are really living in such inhumane conditions, they should all just move into JZ's mansion, after all it is the tax payers money that paid for the multi million upgrade.

  • Mpanza Jerry - 2014-01-17 10:56

Leave Pres Zuma out of this...

      Willy Deville - 2014-01-17 11:08

He is in charge. He is in it, Nakandla, Gupta, Shaik, Arms deal n all!

  • WildCatSal - 2014-01-17 10:58

      stefan.strydom.902 - 2014-01-17 11:10

This makes me worry because I now stay on the East Rand. Do I have to grow a mullet now??

  • Neville Mayes - 2014-01-17 11:07

Warrant Officer Nonhlanhla Khumalo said police were monitoring the situation and no arrests had been made. Metro police closed off Main Reef and Corlett roads in the area as the protesters threw stones at passing cars. So these criminals can put lives in danger while cops watch? Anyone who throws a rock at a car should be arrested or shot

      Willy Deville - 2014-01-17 11:11

They cant watch the criminals. They have to look over their shoulders to see when their boss "restructure" them.

  • Natus Ferreira - 2014-01-17 11:26

So next time I'm not happy with my electricity and rates account I can go and throw some bricks and stones through one of these guys' windows and that will be tolerated without me getting arrested? Nice to know!

  • Ryno de Bruyn - 2014-01-17 11:28

and I bet you they will be voting ANC....again....so in 2015 these protest will just continue...again....

  • Corrie Botha - 2014-01-17 11:41

I'm gonna start blocking of roads because I didn't get free stuff and please iets a protest not a CRIME so warn the law abiding citizens if got big stones to throw at cars invading MY space!!!!!!!!! ANC gave me the right to be a leagal criminal so jmpd sap go sleep I am the law!!!!

  • Nadia Ungerer - 2014-01-17 11:57

Where must these houses be build. If you know where Princess informal settlement is, you will know that they are living on a peace of land that is very small, this used to be a small holding or small farm in the middle of where there now are town houses. Maybe I must also find myself a peace of vacant land and demand a house since I also do not own property. So easy just to demand in RSA!!!!!

  • Christo Boshoff - 2014-01-17 13:15

More service delivery protests proudly brought to you by the ANC!

  • Willem Labuschagne - 2014-01-17 14:02

Where is this exactly? I would like to go and self defend my life there...
