Eastern Cape audit reports worsen

2012-10-11 09:21

Johannesburg - All provincial departments and public entities in the Eastern Cape failed to get completely clean audits from the Auditor General, the Dispatch Online reported on Thursday.

The departments and entities incurred more than R3bn in unauthorised and fruitless expenditure.

The financial performance of 14 departments and nine public entities worsened in the latest round of auditing for 2011/12 compared to the previous financial year.

The AG could not come to an opinion about the provincial education department due to lack of supporting documentation.

The department had unauthorised expenditure of R1.45bn and fruitless expenditure of R58m, according to a report seen by the Dispatch Online.

The figures were revealed when departments and entities tabled their AG annual reports at a provincial legislature sitting in Humansdorp on Tuesday.

This news is nothing new. I would have been more suprised had they received a clean audit...

And the same will happen next year, and the year after that... No one will ever be held accountable or be fired or jailed. They can add another R200 million for wasteful expenditure at Nkandla to that total.

DieSel Your response is pathetic and suggestive that you see yourself as a passive victim of a corrupt system. Well, sorry for you but you can accept that situation - in which case you indirectly support it - or you can choose to do something about it. It's not difficult. Contact your local DA office. They can help you shed your opinions of helplessness. You'll be a better person for it.

Is it not time to make these responsible irresponsibles pay back the billions rather than giving them more in the name of retirement packages?

How does this happen year after year after year. Poverty must be aleviated and better education is just a pipe dream. ANC will be voted in again and this will just carry on until we are like the rest of Africa.

Hence they want Zuma for the second term. To help them continue with this scourge and get away with it. I recall one EC ANC leader saying "We gained a lot during Zuma's time", now I get it. It’s so sad.

      Jannie - 2012-10-11 10:42

Many did indeed gain a lot during Zuma's time. By following his example and being allowed to line their pockets and get away with it.

Cry my beloved Province!!! And we'll vote JZ in for 2nd term because he promises he'll do better this time Worst Health, Ed, Agriculture and every other govt department in the country, totally dysfunctional municipalities but we'll give JZ a 2nd term because he promises it'll be better this time!

  • winifred.watson.9 - 2012-10-11 11:37

This is the worst province and the most corrupt and yet again people will vote for the same people and next year will be the same. What is wrong with people that they are afraid of change, are they that scared and stupid. surely taking a chance can better your life. If the ANC get elected in this province, then I will have no sympathy for the people that live there. YOu reap what you sow.
