Eastern Cape crash claims fifth life

Johannesburg - A fifth person has died following last week's crash between a taxi and a mortuary van in Uitenhage, police said on Monday.

"The fifth fatality was a woman, 29-years-old, who passed away on Saturday," said police spokesperson Priscilla Naidu in a statement.

The woman was a passenger in the taxi that collided with the van on Friday.

The taxi driver and two of his passengers died on the scene, while a passenger in the mortuary van died later that day in hospital.

Two other people were hospitalised.
