Johannesburg - A hitch-hiker was arrested in Arcadia on Tuesday after being allegedly found in possession of Mandrax tablets, East London police said.

Police, acting on a tip-off about a drug dealer on Recreation Road, took the 45-year-old man who was hitch-hiking from East London to Butterworth into custody, Captain Stephen Marais said.

Marais said 80 Mandrax tablets, with a street value of R4 800, were found in his possession.

He would appear in the East London Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on charges of dealing in drugs and possession of drugs.
