Johannesburg - A man has been arrested for murdering his mother in Ngcisininde village, Ngqamakwe, Eastern Cape police said on Thursday.

"Police caught the 22-year-old man at his home on Wednesday, shortly after the family members reported the murder," Captain Jackson Manatha said.

The woman was hit by a stone while her two sons were fighting at her home on December 28. The cause of the fight was not known.

"The arrested man had allegedly thrown the stone at his brother, but it missed him and hit their mother above the eye," Manatha said.

She died at the Butterworth Hospital six days later.

The man was expected to face a murder charge in court soon.
