Johannesburg - An Eastern Cape man was arrested on Monday when 70 dagga plants were found in his garden at the Skiet informal settlement, in Butterworth, police said.

Police arrived at the 48-year-old man's house at 05:00 and uprooted the plants, Captain Jackson Manatha said in a statement. The man also had five packages of dagga.

The dagga was worth an estimated R5 000 on the street, Manatha said.

The man was expected to appear in Butterworth Magistrate's Court later on Monday.

It probably cost the tax payer more than R5 000 in salaries and fuel to bring this "drug lord" to justice.
