Johannesburg - Five men were arrested for stock theft on Friday in King William's Town, Eastern Cape police said.

Lieutenant Siphokazi Mawisa said the men were arrested around 1am when members of the flying squad searched two suspicious cars in Thomas Street.

"Eight sheep, of which two were alive and six were already slaughtered, were found in the boots of the cars."

Police discovered the sheep had been stolen earlier from a farm near Alice.

The men, aged between 19 and 33, faced charges of stock theft and would appear in the King William's Town Magistrate's Court on Monday, said Mawisa.
