Johannesburg - An 80-year-old man accused of raping a three-year-old girl appeared in the Matsulu Periodical Court on Monday, Mpumalanga police said.

The case was postponed to Thursday when he was expected to bring a formal application for bail. He remained in custody, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said.

The man allegedly grabbed the three-year-old girl on Friday last week while she was playing outside a neighbour's house in Khutsong village in Matsulu, and raped her. He was arrested later that day.

In a separate case, a 23-year-old man accused of raping an 18-year-old man appeared in the Mkobola Magistrate's Court, in Kwaggafontein, on Monday.

The case was postponed to next Monday, when he intended applying for bail. He remained in custody, said Mohlala.

On Friday, the man allegedly invited the 18-year-old to his house at Vlaklaagte in Kwaggafontein.

"Upon his arrival, he instructed the victim to undress and not scream. He then forcefully raped him," Mohlala said. The 23-year-old was arrested the same day.
