Elderly man killed in Durban blaze

Durban - One person has been killed in a fire which destroyed about seven informal dwellings in Lamontville, Durban, in the early hours of Monday morning.

KwaZulu-Natal EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie said the blaze started shortly before dawn.

“The cause of the fire remains unclear at this stage. Paramedics responded to the scene and found that a women had suffered suspected smoke inhalation and she was treated at the scene,” he said.

“Sadly a man believed to be in his seventies died in the fire. His body was found by firefighters who were extinguishing the flames and he was declared dead.”
