@leosejake Stop criticising yourself, embrace your curves and don’t let your past define you. These are some of the points Miss South Africa 2010 Bokang Montjane shared with more than 200 women at the Look Good, Feel Good high tea at Sun City this weekend. She added that women were always hard on themselves and didn’t appreciate their worth. “Women always doubt themselves ... A super woman is a ‘yes I’ll take the risk’ type of woman. “Never ever give up on your passion,” she added. Montjane encouraged those women who had pushed aside their dreams to put food on the table to pursue those dreams. Women’s Day remembers the 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria in 1956 against the government’s proposed amendments to the pass laws. Today, women around the country gather at several events to remember them but also celebrate the modern woman. Former Generations actor Thato Molamu was the MC for the day. Molamu is an activist for women’s rights and participated in the Thando Thabethe Women’s Day Netball Challenge, a campaign initiated by Thabethe to raise awareness about woman abuse. The netball challenge raises funds for women in abusive relationships, the actress told Bona magazine. Also on the speaker line-up was media mogul Bridget Nkuna. She spoke about how women should see the gold within and filter through the mud slung at them – labels they’ve been given through the years. “Be careful not to let what people call you take away from what you are,” she said. Here are some tips Montjane and Nkuna shared on embracing the super woman in you and seeing your worth: » Don’t let people define you; » Become the person you were born to be – a conqueror; » Take risks; » Follow your dreams – find your passion; » Be the chief executive of your life; » Don’t let body image bring you down – you are beautiful; » Invest in education; » Be careful who you surround yourself with; » Don’t focus on things that can change – material things; » Embrace being a mother – appreciate the opportunity to raise a child; and » Keep smiling.
