Johannesburg - The electricity pylons that collapsed in
Slovoville, Soweto, have been reconstructed, power utility Eskom said on
Wednesday.
"The Eskom towers that collapsed in Slovoville, Soweto,
on Sunday due to theft of structural components from the towers have been
restored and load rotation has been lifted," spokesperson Reneiloe Semenya
said.
The collapsed towers resulted in power cuts in areas
including Meadowlands, Snake Park, Dobsonville Gardens, Braamfischerville, and
Protea Glen.
"Electricity theft not only affects the integrity of
our network, but interferes with activities of households and business
operations," Semenya said.
The damage was estimated at R2.5m.
