Ex-Blue Bull in court for axe killings

2011-03-31 10:43

Durban - The case against the man accused of killing three men in a revenge attack after his daughter was allegedly gang-raped and infected with HIV was postponed in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

The matter was postponed to April 7 for a date for a bail application to be set and for a "medical observation" to be done on the 33-year-old man.

The former Blue Bulls rugby player, dressed in a red T-shirt and black tracksuit pants, was charged with three counts of murder, one of attempted murder and one of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Further investigation

Prosecutor Martin Mtambo said the State was opposed to the release of the accused and asked that the matter be postponed for seven days for further investigation and to arrange a date for bail application.

The court was packed with security personnel. At the start of the case reporters were barred from entering the court by armed policemen.

Later they were led in with members of the public.

The man will be detained at the Brighton Beach holding cells.

The man was arrested in Yellowwood Park on Tuesday morning after he allegedly killed the three men with an axe and wounded a fourth.

The headless body of one victim was found in Lamontville. The head was found in Jacobs.

Another two people were found hacked to death in Lamontville.

God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

      Chris - 2011-03-31 11:34

Darwinian - I feel sorry for you. One day my friend you will be dumbstruck sad you posted these 6 words. Yes - This child was saved a long time ago.

      majoor - 2011-03-31 11:35

@ Darwinian. God does not have to keep us safe... Our stay here on earth is a short one... He wants us to be with him but because he loves us he has given us a chance to live and experience love for one another. Each person is in control of their own destiny. What happens after life... that is what dudes like you should be kakking yourself about.....

  • Stuartthom - 2011-03-31 10:56

What has the fact that he is ex Blue Bull got to do with it news 24? His sport political sexual or any other link have NOTHING to do with this case - i hope he got the right crims

      Jacqui McAllister - 2011-03-31 11:15

      cant agree with you more!!!!

      Snoek - 2011-03-31 11:18

It can't be an old bulls player. They are all still making the team.

      EXPLORER - 2011-03-31 11:37

Agree there with you. IF it is who I think it is, he last played for the Blue Bulls in 2002-is

  • PMG - 2011-03-31 11:00

This is the result of utter frustation at our corrupt police service and mickey mouse African justice system, whereby a murderer gets a R1000-00 bail and is free to hit the sreets again,VIVA CORRUPTION,VIVA GROSS INCOMPITANCE,VIVA ANC.

  • Steelball - 2011-03-31 11:01

Steelball At least we have 3 less rapists that will use our tax money to get bail or released and just to rape again. my thoughts are with you, thinking of my 2 jewels, would have done the same. good luck.

      Spazman - 2011-03-31 11:05

I dont want the dad to go to jail but if he does atleast I know my tax money is well spent...

      tracy.moller - 2011-03-31 11:38

Correct. Considering that rapists have been released on a mere R500 bail in the past. Only to be rearrested for another rape and released again.

  • Betsy - 2011-03-31 11:03

How is it pertinent that he is an ex Blue Bull?

      BakkieB - 2011-03-31 11:07

It isn't Betsy but it makes the story more sensational. If he was Piet Public, no-one would give a rats

  • Debra - 2011-03-31 11:03

I certainly DON'T blame this father. If it was my daughter I would have done the same if not worse......

      Melly31 - 2011-03-31 11:06

      Me too...

      Bla Bla - 2011-03-31 11:29

I second you on that one

  • Mnox - 2011-03-31 11:05

I would do the same thing, it may not be right but I don't think these other way!!! God be with you my brother!!!

  • ConcernedMom - 2011-03-31 11:06

Wow if he is only 33 years old, how old was his CHILD when she was gang raped? No wonder this dad did what he did.

      Jacqui McAllister - 2011-03-31 11:18

Those were my thoughts too. How old was she. Little!! Father was probably under some kind of temporary insanity to go on this killing spree. I think if it was me - i too would have had a "brain re-arranged psychological state" and gone on a killing spree. No parent can endure this kind of thing happening to their child

      e.henning101 - 2011-03-31 11:33

@ConcernedMom: With all respect, the age is not really relevant now, is it? At any age (for parents) if anything this barbaric happens to their children (male/ female), I would assume that we all would want to take this type of action (obviously depending on our physical abilities at the specific age). I would rip the world apart if my daughter/ wife got raped and infected...

  • Dawid Roestorf - 2011-03-31 11:07

This is going to start to happen more often, as people are getting more and more fed up with everything. What he did was wrong non the less, but still, goverment need to open their eyes.

      Spoofed - 2011-03-31 11:32

maybe if people stopped voting for the ANC it might get better...

  • DeonL - 2011-03-31 11:08

We are going in the dark ages again. Killing anyone is against the law, unless it is self defence wich it was clearly not, whatever they did, they did not deserve to die. His daughter needed him, now he will be locked up for 50 years.

      Fed-Up - 2011-03-31 11:20

You may be speaking the truth, but if anything like this happens to my daughter I would do the same - and I disagree on one point - those animals deserve to die! - or better their hands feet and that organ that was bothering them should be hacked of with an axe or blunt knife!

      mike881 - 2011-03-31 11:50

DeonL with our justice system it is highly doubtful if he would get 50 years, unless of course that he is white and a prominent member of the AWB/Freedom Front. Hopefully with a good lawyer and a lot of public support he will get far less than you predict! Bearing in mind that a lot of court cases are never finalised due to bungling. If he got the right scum then I am 100% behind him!

  • Janine - 2011-03-31 11:09

@spiderkzn - if he killed ANYONE then he should go to jail.

      e.henning101 - 2011-03-31 11:29

@Janine: Just a question... If you had been gang raped and given a death sentence, would you still have such an approach??

      Wendy - 2011-03-31 11:31

Those bastards should have been in jail to start with

  • Chris - 2011-03-31 11:11

Speaks volumes for the trust and belief voters have in the Luthuli House deployed cronies that run government and make laws.

  • BokomoWeetbi - 2011-03-31 11:12

You have my support - You are a Hero to most fathers!!! Whether you rot in jail or get hanged, you did your daughter Justice. If you left it to the courts they would have lived, gotten bail and then the police report would have gotten lost....Up You!!

  • steve - 2011-03-31 11:14

He must have been pretty sure it was them, if it was JOB DONE!

  • joyce.moeketsi - 2011-03-31 11:16

This is an act of a father angered by what was done to his daughter. I just hope he got the right criminals and hope they suffered 'til their last breath. The trauma of a rape isn't something anyone should have to go through...especially a child!

      Justin - 2011-03-31 11:39

Well said Joyce..I hope they were the right guys!

  • e.henning101 - 2011-03-31 11:16

Set him free and give back his axe!! Sharpened and with lots of Red Bull!! If anybody (and I'm no Rambo, but still...) raped my daughter and/ or wife, and axe will be the very very least of their concerns!! Not to mention the extended death sentence by means of HIV...

  • Tomas - 2011-03-31 11:16

Maybe the police should ahve done their job in the first place and areested the criminals. He is a farther and he reacted to someone hurting his daughter. He did nothing wrong. These basards(the rapists) think they are free to do as they want and when someone strikes back - they cry fowl (well not all of them). I still thing he reacted to the gross lack of a proper jsutice system. MAybe next time some a--hole wants to rape someone, he will think twice and know someone may jsut come after him.

      Wendy - 2011-03-31 11:31

  • Nick van der Leek - 2011-03-31 11:17

don't know why but I support this guy 100%. perhaps because 99.9% do nothing which is why criminals are so brazen. his rage and frustration are understandable.

  • alessandroz067 - 2011-03-31 11:18

    well done...

  • ebdg3000 - 2011-03-31 11:18

This is going to happen more and more - directly as a result of the useless, farcical judiciary in this country, and the incompetent police, who, admittedly, can catch the crims but then stuff the whole case up with amateur investigation, dockets, etc. A TIME TO KILL.

      Wendy - 2011-03-31 11:30

I agree. WE ARE THE POLICE NOW

  • Clint - 2011-03-31 11:19

I hope I never have to be in this man’s shoes one day. My daughter is 10 years old. If something like a gang rape happened to her and she got AIDS I will go to jail too. Our judges are sworn at by attorneys who make a mockery of our justice system. How do we expect justice to have prevailed for this man? I do not condone what he did but I certainly do not want to be in his shoes.

      Justin - 2011-03-31 11:38

Could not agree with you more....sad actually!!

  • hyde - 2011-03-31 11:22

This guy is a hero!!! Well done! More people should do this and maybe criminals will think before they mess up innocent peoples lives.

      Wendy - 2011-03-31 11:29

  • kneelow - 2011-03-31 11:23

If he got the right guys, that is brilliant. They deserve to die. It's not like the SAPS would do much about it.

  • Abel - 2011-03-31 11:23

Proof dat people hav evil lurking in them waiting 4 an excuse! The bastard must rott in jail, then burn in hell

      Wendy - 2011-03-31 11:29

See what you do if someone hurts or kills you child

      Evil-C - 2011-03-31 11:31

Fool, go watch the movie TIME TO KILL and you'll understand!

      Thelma - 2011-03-31 11:31

Do you have any children Abel?

  • Currie_Mafia - 2011-03-31 11:26

I can understand his anger as a father. I just hope that these guys were the culprits....but, Murder is murder & Justice must be served...

  • Wendy - 2011-03-31 11:28

Kangaroo Court. YES. Cops do nothing we must do something. My son was killed in a "hi jacking" at age 21 six years ago. I am still waiting . If you go by the law you lose.

  • Chantal Harder - 2011-03-31 11:28

Now that this man has been caught, and this incident is so public, he will probably go to jail, he will suffer the psychological, emotional and physical effects of life in jail, his daughter will have to live with HIV, with all the wounds of being gangraped and without the presence of her father, and who knows what other psychological and emotional issues this may birth.....and we are for the majority still so happy he killed those men, because it appeals to our short term emotional sense of now they are dead....and life stretches out in front of this father and daughter and it looks not so wonderful...what now? - 2011-03-31 11:50

Agree with u 100% Chantal - typical mentality of the South African macho man of a certain linguistic group. These men he killed were random people on the street - he took it upon himself to to commit these racist murders based on the apparent race of his daughters attackers - who loses here? Only himself, his daughter and the families of those innocent men walking on the street late at night. Those who support this man are just as sick as him and shows the sick minds of some South Africans of certain linguistic groups with the broerderbond mentality.

  • KissTheBoer - 2011-03-31 11:29

The reason the death penalty was stopped its because a lot of innocent people lost their lives. I totally feel for the dad and his daughter since I have a little daughter myself, I f that happen to my daughter I would have done worse than this "IF" only IF I knew the perpetrators. having sad that lets not rul out the possibility of innocent people loosing their lives because of an angry dad who just killed anything his suspected without having a hard core evidence. before you get too excited praising the DAD just as yourself how would you feel if it was your son mistaken for a rapist by angry dad. just food for thought. This is not a racial issue but a social which toughes us all equally. If we all want to leave in this country peacefully we need to join hands and stop generalising especially from the white community.

  • Darius - 2011-03-31 11:29

Darwinian Ass. Have you got nothing better to do, go have some with your gay lover and stuff off, no one finds your comments interesting.

  • Duke - 2011-03-31 11:29

Yes this guy is a hero. He always was his daughter's Hero. Now he proved it. What do the government do with criminals....they make heroes out of them. They put them in parliament or they put them in jail where no one can touch them, they are fed, they are warm, the watch TV the whole day, they can run their gangs...because they are heroes. The bastards who rape, stay away from my family because i will not stop at 3....

  • Brandon96end - 2011-03-31 11:32

I'd do the same... except there'd be more torture involved. An axe is too quick.

  • Mark - 2011-03-31 11:32

The guy did us a favour!

  • WiseOwl2 - 2011-03-31 11:33

Street justice is the only justice in this country !!! give that man a Bells !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Justin - 2011-03-31 11:35

My heart and sole go out to the families of these men , however I have a daughter and let me tell you ----- I would have hacked more then there heads off and done the time - can only imagine the hurt this dad felt and anger that pushed him to do this .... General Tshepo you come up with the stupidist things , something tells me you get a kick out of creating a stirr - I wont give into you - You BLOODY Agent!!!!!

  • Duke - 2011-03-31 11:35

Well this guy is a hero. He was always his little girl's hero. He no just proved it to her, by terminating her enemies. The government makes heroes out of criminals. how...they are out in a safe place where the public (the victims) can not touch them, they are fed, they are kept warm, they become lazy maggots watching TV the whole day, they can study, they can conduct their criminal activities and gangsterism at their leasure....and we got to pay. So they are the heroes...we look after them for the rest of their lives...they have no worries...we who still got to struggle with the fear, the trauma, bonds, crime, jobloss...we must pay for those bastards to keep them safe.... Well this guy is my hero...and a message to all rapists...stay away from my family. I will not stop until I am caught.

  • tracy.moller - 2011-03-31 11:36

In a country where rape is rarely reported or police don't take it seriously enough. Added to the unfortunate circumstance that i's mostly up to the victim to prove it happened, I'm not surprised this has happened. What is sad is that the biggest sensation about this tradgedy is that the accused is an ex rugby player.

  • Clint - 2011-03-31 11:36

Our justice system does not help the citizens of this country. Our judges are not treated right. Then there are judges receiving kickbacks from (Oasis etc..) you know who I’m talking about. Just about every police person is corrupt. They just issued a warrant of arrest for the chief of crime intelligence. This guy is supposed to be beyond reproach yet he too is possibly a murderer. Must he too rot in jail? We are always asked to come up with solutions to problems but it seem the more we try to solve the worse the problems are becoming.

  • ?? - 2011-03-31 11:37

If someone gang rapes my daughter,i wont chop their heads off - the Dr Mengele in me will come out.

  • MactheKnife - 2011-03-31 11:37

What a Blue Bulls player! With reputation they could win the super 14

  • devils_advo - 2011-03-31 11:39

What are the chances it may be this chap

  • Nick - 2011-03-31 11:43

Screw them. If they were guilty then he did the right thing. Even if he goes to jail, he'll feel it was worth it. You can't turn the focus on him for what he did - they were wrong first! And leave the fact that he has a link to the Bulls alone!

  • Lerato - 2011-03-31 11:49

What is this country coming to? A man kills 3 people and its a political parties fault!!! I hope they catch the rapist and put him in a same cell as this guy. That will be justice!!!

  • DisgustedSA - 2011-03-31 11:57

@GeneralTsepho: ARE YOU PERHAPS ONE OF THE RAPISTS THAT GOT AWAY GENERALTSHEPO?? I hope you do not have a daughter and have to EVER go through such a traumatic experience in your life!! What you said will someday hit you fullon in the face mate!!! You are nothing better than a dog!

  • Sniperb vdMerwe - 2011-03-31 12:01

Go dude, kill 'em all. Hopefully they'll send him to the joint and he'll kill a few more. All you high and mighty keyboard cowboys saying killing is wrong, what would you do if this happened to you? By the sounds of it you don't have brave bone in your body. So what if your soul is damned for eternity? I'll happy send my soul to hell knowing I've rid the earth of evil scum. I for one won't got the axe way, I'd find a nicely elevated spot, take my silenced rifle and pick off the bastards one by one. No mess, no fuss, no witnesses and you can go home to your broken family to start the healing process.

  • lerator - 2011-03-31 12:01

At times pain make u go to extremes. For my daughter i'd do the same if i know the people who did it......this is a sick world.

  • Sue - 2011-03-31 12:05

Spazman I wasaboutto say the same thing to that idoit GenTsepo. I think if hedoes have any children he woulden't mind stuff like this happening to them. Cos he gives the impression that he isa brainless clueless, feelingless moving piece of waste. Any real parent would understand what this man was feeling.
