Fake Eskom officials rob family

2013-02-20 09:09

Bloemfontein - Two members of a Welkom family have been robbed at gunpoint by men pretending to be Eskom officials.

Volksblad reported that the three men were wearing Eskom uniforms and told the family they were inspectors who had come to inspect electrical cables.

Only a grandfather and his grandson were at home at the time.

As soon as the robbers gained access to the house they pulled out firearms and tied up the grandfather and grandson with cables.

Two cellphones and a small safe containing a firearm were stolen.

Police warned residents not to open their doors to people unknown to them.

Anyone with information was asked to call Christiaan de Lange on 082 8219227 or 057-3916271.

I was about to say the same thing. It's the same with the SAPS. The initial reports were that it was people prentending to be police but it later transpired that they were active members of SAPS.

Some residence trust people from Telkom, Eskom, SAPS, etc because they are not aware of the con-artists. Probably educating people about how some modus operandi works will help residence be more curious to ask for identification before allowing these personal into their homes. The government and parastals must do more
