Johannesburg - Three men and a woman were arrested for posing as police and hijacking truck and its escort vehicle in Boschkop, east of Pretoria, on Wednesday, police said.

The truck, which was carrying cigarettes worth R4m, was hijacked by a gang of 10, said police spokesperson Neville Malila.

"The driver of the truck was dumped in Soshanguve, while the two drivers in the escorting vehicle were dumped in Mamelodi, where a case was registered," he said.

Malila said the truck was found abandoned in Verena, Mpumalanga.

Police recovered 200 boxes of cigarettes and furniture, and seized a device used to jam tracking signals.

The four were arrested on a farm in Bronkhorstspruit and would appear in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Malila said investigations were continuing and more arrests were expected.
