Johannesburg - Two men, who were allegedly part of a group dressed in security guard uniforms who stole 121 boxes of hairpieces, have been arrested in Johannesburg, police said on Sunday.

Police stopped a suspicious looking white Nissan diesel truck driving at high speed in the Johannesburg CBD in the early hours of Saturday morning, Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said.

When they stopped the vehicle the driver was alone in the front seat, but when police opened the back of the truck they found another man hiding behind boxes.

Mbele said the men failed to give police a reasonable explanation of where they were taking the boxes.

While on the scene the police received information that a truck was used to transport stolen items from the China multi-complex on the corner of Main Reef Road and Hanover Street in Fordsburg.

"It is alleged that six suspects entered the complex wearing the same uniform the securities guarding the complex, wear.

"They held up three security guards with firearms and handcuffed them before loading the boxes of hairpieces onto the truck," said Mbele.

Police were still searching for four more suspects.

The two arrested on Saturday were expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court soon.
