Farm attacker killed while fleeing

2012-05-16 10:47

Mahikeng - An elderly couple survived an attack on their North West farm, but one of their assailants died when he crashed their bakkie, Beeld reported on Wednesday.

Two men throttled, kicked and beat Charlotte Strumpher after breaking into the farmhouse, between Zeerust and Lichtenburg, on Saturday night.

Strumpher's husband, Johan, had gone to a neighbouring farm to watch a televised rugby match, the newspaper reported.

While Strumpher was being assaulted, one of her attackers told her to stop praying to God for help, as he did not want to hear any of "those words".

Strumpher's husband returned to the farm, where he was attacked and beaten with a metal pipe, police spokesperson Brigadier Thulane Ngubane said.

Johan Strumpher managed to get hold of his revolver and fired shots at the assailants. The two fled in the couple's bakkie, but one of them, Ontiretse Marumo, 42, was killed when it overturned.

The second man, aged 18, fled the scene of the accident. His parents later handed him to the police.

The Strumphers, both in their sixties, were treated in a Klerksdorp clinic and discharged.

    Give that bakkie a bells!

      CharlesDumbwin - 2012-05-16 11:03

that's what happens when you buy your driver's license

      rbphiri - 2012-05-16 11:13

How I wished he crashed into his friends.

      Christopher - 2012-05-16 11:34 news I have heard today.

      Poloyatonki - 2012-05-16 11:57

The bakkie deserves 2 bottles of bells, I hate it when criminals think they can do as they want. Imagine a 42 year old committing crime with a 18 year old, how sick can our society be really....

      siyadyosiba - 2012-05-16 12:01

@polo, probably an old criminal uncle on a teaching session to the nephew preparing him to take over. Me thinks.

      pokum - 2012-05-16 14:37

      Clearly God was listening

  • lskosana3 - 2012-05-16 10:57

    Serves him right!

      Digger - 2012-05-23 00:54

Well done to the mother for handing in her son. It couldn't have been easy for her, but she did the right thing.

  • Gee - 2012-05-16 10:58

I hope the bakkie is still ok...!

      richard.hipkin - 2012-05-16 11:01

      Me too!

      pokum - 2012-05-16 14:37

  • Shayne - 2012-05-16 10:58

Pity they both did not die when the bakkie overturned

  • jannie.myburgh.16 - 2012-05-16 10:59

Our President still maintains we live in a safe country , My ass

      Ettienne - 2012-05-16 13:01

The only reason he THINKS it is safe, is because wherever he goes, he has body guards protecting him. I would love to see what would happen to him if he lived all alone one without protection in the current circumstances of this country. I bet our good friend would arrange a "quick-fix" for him...LMAO.

  • jpstrauss - 2012-05-16 11:00

    That name sounds Zimbabwean.

      CharlesDumbwin - 2012-05-16 11:03

who cares, they're r@cist murderers attacking old white people again.

      Wally Walters - 2012-05-16 11:06

At least no taxpayers money waisted on this trial but anyway very good news

      MSGRule - 2012-05-16 11:11

So what heathen attackers. Cut off their heads.

      Vaaldonkie - 2012-05-16 12:01

I think the point is that zimbo's shouldn't have free rein to do as they please in our country. We have enough of our own criminals, thank you very much.

  • MSGRule - 2012-05-16 11:01

Good news for once, a couple survived a farm attack! No tnews you hear of very often. Never underestimate the power of prayer!!

      CharlesDumbwin - 2012-05-16 11:04

      absolutely! and shooting lessons

  • Henri - 2012-05-16 11:02

Need more of this news, but with where the farmers won and not the bakkie.

      TheyTookMyNickLaZynEko - 2012-05-16 14:03

maybe if they shot the attackers dead they would be thrown in jail for killing them.

      pokum - 2012-05-16 14:40

no they wouldnt, if the unknown person is on your farm skiet hom will be just fine

  • Werner - 2012-05-16 11:05

  • Paul - 2012-05-16 11:06

    Shoot the attackers!

      hoosein.kader - 2012-05-16 13:18

I would say death is the most humane thing to do...keep him alive till he is 105, that would be punishment!

  • clive.brink - 2012-05-16 11:07

The way things work in this country the next of kin will probably bring a law suit against the manufacturers of the bakkie for manufacturing a vehicle that was unsuitable and unsafe to make a successful getaway.

      madise.paul - 2012-05-16 11:09

U so twisted! skip the country then...

      watsongeorgejan - 2012-05-16 11:10

Fortunately this is not the USA.

  • gailcarolynhayes - 2012-05-16 11:07

Hope the one who didn't want to "hear those words" was the one killed when driving the vehicle.

  • Gert - 2012-05-16 11:07

    Mooi so

  • danny.levin.351 - 2012-05-16 11:10

the death of this scumbag is the best news I've heard today. I hope the couple recover quickly and fully.

  • Merven - 2012-05-16 11:11

Finally some good news. Hope he suffered tremendously before he died.

  • izak.greyling - 2012-05-16 11:11

Justice! If only all criminals where dealt with so quickly.

  • Hudayfah - 2012-05-16 11:11

Further investigations found a red shirt and a brick in the bakkie, Vavi was not available for comment. :-)

      Christian J Denyschen - 2012-05-16 11:17

      lol nice one.

      siyadyosiba - 2012-05-16 11:31

      u trolling

      Christopher - 2012-05-16 11:38

Haha...funny. Thats probably where they were getting their brick supply from. But these attackers have definitely a Cosatu member mentality.

      Hudayfah - 2012-05-16 11:44

      sowi i couldn't resist . . .

      siyadyosiba - 2012-05-16 11:49

@hudayfah, I can imagine, after yesterday's incidents. you are forgiven. HAHAHAHA

      Hudayfah - 2012-05-16 12:27

@siyadyosiba lol i had a giggle myself when this came to mind

  • sabongam - 2012-05-16 11:12

Victims - 1, Criminals - 0 another useless sod bites the dust...Wish more of this could happen to these bastards instead of our tax money being wasted to maintain them in prison. God answered the Strumpher's prayers.

  • Pulverturm - 2012-05-16 11:22

  • siyadyosiba - 2012-05-16 11:23

Horrible incident. Hope they recover soon and well from the hurt and trauma. Its good to hear that the parents of the second assailant handed him to the police. Give the parents a bells.

  • MichaelThekiso - 2012-05-16 11:23

Dear ANC government, please do something about these farm attacks. These attacks have been going on for way to long and your silence cannot be tolerated anymore. Can't you see how harmful is this to nation-building, race relations, international opinion and economy of the country? Set up police stations in farms so that you can deter these criminals.

      Bomb - 2012-05-16 11:29

      Il buy you a Bells!!!

  • Travis - 2012-05-16 11:23

May all future attackers suffer the same fate!

  • Ryno - 2012-05-16 11:24

I want to know what reason is he going to give to try justify why they attacked an elderly couple! I'm willing to bet they'll blame racism or apartheid!!! But they fail to remember that the 18 year old has never seen a day of apartheid in his life! Or will they try to say it was robbery? When you stick around to beat the husband as well, that's more than robbery on your mind! That's if they have any minds! This is the prime reason SA has now started importing food when we use to have to eport our excesses. We now have a shortage of farmers due to it being so dangerous for them!

      Bless Boswell - 2012-05-16 11:28

Of course they'll blame it on a repressive government of yesteryear.

      Lukas - 2012-05-16 11:55

People believe in God but have never seen him.they believe in Jesus but have never seen see what am gettin to with this! The scars that have been left by apartheid can still be witnessed today because of poverty and racism!

      Jacqui - 2012-05-16 13:55

Lukas, stop blaming apartheid for the shortcomings of your brothers. They weren't after bread, they wanted his bakkie. Their racism justified attacking old people because they were white. Whose racism are you talking about?.

  • Steve - 2012-05-16 11:24

Kicking n beating were introduced by the likes of ET, PWB, H VERWOERD etc...may the law take its course, and the bastards rot in jail

  • Shannon - 2012-05-16 11:24

Big up to the parents of the 18 year old for handing his butt over to the police!

      Bless Boswell - 2012-05-16 11:27

Yes. Thank you. A difficult thing to do, but the right thing.

      Christopher - 2012-05-16 11:41

The Farmers probably knew who he was, and that the mother probably worked on the farm including their whole family, so she had to.

  • Jan-Paul - 2012-05-16 11:24

Brilliant!!! Kill all those Mother F@^C*$s who attack Farmers. They must be put down like dogs!!! All farmers should arm themselves and shoot on site. Exterminate all the parasites plaguing our Country

      Deon - 2012-05-16 12:16

Building some more jails might be a good start?

  • MichaelThekiso - 2012-05-16 11:26

Any crime is blatantly wrong, but this is savagery at its very best...Mob justice is needed for nincompoops such as these...

  • JouMa - 2012-05-16 11:27

  • John - 2012-05-16 11:27

  • John - 2012-05-16 11:29

    Bring back the rope!

  • keith.ngobeni - 2012-05-16 11:30

a 42yrs old man still doing crime for a living this shows that in south Africa the future is very doom and gloom as long as the current political regime and it's allies are still in charge of our country, thank God the poor couple are ok, here in Britain most crimes are committed by juveniles/teenagers and some youths who drinks to much Stella atoirs lager mixed with cocaine not 42yrs old men. It's embarrassing and heart breaking from honest speaking, well done to the mum who handed in her son to the police.

      themba.ntuli - 2012-05-16 11:43

To be frank with you keith, the only difference between south africa and nord kivu in the eastern congo is that SA is rich they are the same in many angles,i.e.mass rapes, ruthless murders, looting of state coffers, a complex network of connections to get favours and kickstarts in things to be done from the geverment like jobs houses contracts etc. SA Is just a wealthy rich version of the DRC.

  • Donne.3 - 2012-05-16 11:36

Its about time we stand together and make a point! And glad this his parents turned him into the police. We are all fighting for a safer South Africa and if that means turning your children in - then well done to those parents! Glad these farmers managed to survive - just sorry for the emotional ordeal they now face.

  • Carla - 2012-05-16 11:37

I take my hat off to the parents of the 18 year old for turning their son into the police. That cannot have been an easy thing to do, but it was very definitely the right thing to do. Well done. Hope the couple makes a speedy recovery.

  • Mewik - 2012-05-16 11:38

At least his parents show that there are still decent people left in SA. If my son did this I too would hand him over after I'd beaten him senseless, he's old enough to know right from wrong as his parents obviously do and have spent 18yrs teaching him their values. Its a terrible shame that he couldn't live up to their standards and do something with his life that they could be proud of.

  • Craig - 2012-05-16 11:45

Respect to the parents for handing there son over to the police!! As for the one that died, awesome, justice is served, bugger most probably had a hand in getting the youngster into a life of crime

  • Keith - 2012-05-16 11:47

They are evil monsters maar moenie worry the other one will get married in prison since Obama the gay president of USA has legalised man to man marriage.Sy peopsak sal later lyke soos de Toit kloof tonnel met a klomp draaie.

      Carla - 2012-05-16 12:58

"gay president of USA has legalised man to man marriage" What has this got to do with South Africa, never mind the article at hand?

      Jacqui - 2012-05-16 13:59

Keith, your mind constipation isn't worth being displayed here.Insulting Obama shows ignorance that would worry me if it were mine.

  • Frank - 2012-05-16 11:48

Cosatu and Zuma has nothing to do with this! What happen here is a crime just like any other crime. We cannot call the Army to protect the farms. Yes the farmers produce food but we are also making a conribution in this country via tax SO WHAT?

      Mewik - 2012-05-16 11:56

I'm sorry but I'm not quite understanding what exactly your point is. Oh well no point trying to work it out really, safer to just conclude that your not that bright and move on with my day.

      Jacqui - 2012-05-16 14:00

      Frank, you got lost somewhere?.

  • Louis - 2012-05-16 11:48

It happens because violence is tolerated and even encouraged such as with the cosatu vs DA situation yesterday. We are just another african country now.

      phillip.smit.9 - 2012-06-07 21:26

awa[africa wins again] this beautiful continent was born and raised on violence and her people no nothihg else the ethic today is to take from the hard working and give to the poor to destroy asap

  • Sidney Gilroy - 2012-05-16 11:52

His parents handed him to the police. How many of you would've done that? Good for them. There is hope, after all.

  • Joe - 2012-05-16 11:57

The way forward ,let all farmers be prepared for the vermon of society..Economical unviable waste of space to mankind..dont breed them if you cant feed them..
