Farmer shot dead near Lesotho border

2011-11-03 09:05

Bloemfontein - A Free State farm manager was killed and his brother wounded by attackers near the Lesotho border, Volksblad newspaper reported on Thursday.

Sean Schutte, 36, was shot twice at a short distance when he and his brother, Louis, 33, riding a quad bike, chased two armed men on the farm Alpha, the report said.

The chase followed the arrival of armed men at the farmhouse. The domestic worker called for help.

The Schutte brothers followed the men to the Caledon Rivier where Sean was killed and Louis wounded in the chest.

The wounded brother was shot three times before the men apparently fled into Lesotho.

Louis was flown to Mediclinic in Bloemfontein by air ambulance on Wednesday night. He was in a serious condition, the report said.

Now Malema's song singing is having the effect he wanted and the ANC says it is not hate speech and will do no harm, who do they think they are fooling. Zim here we come, somebody should lay charges of incitment to commit murder and theft.

      msendi - 2011-11-03 12:24

@Dave…before the men apparently fled into Lesotho. What if the men were from Lesotho??? My condolences to the family of the deceased. May God change the hearts of all brutal monsters…

      Ann - 2011-11-04 10:43

This is very sad - I really pray that the evil in our country stops and that people will start caring for one-another. RIP Sean and recover soon Louis!

      Garth - 2011-12-14 08:50

@that racist black bastard above: Fvck you and return back to your dead homeland before the locals find out that you are mkwere kwere.

      Malcolm86 - 2011-12-14 08:55

To the a**hole who posted that racist comment- you are a piece of disgusting filth! I see you're from Zim. Well go back! We don't want youy here you piece of scum!

      Omrisho - 2011-12-14 09:04

      @ ngonidzashe.chibamu... a racist calling a racist racist, wtf

      Malcolm86 - 2011-12-14 09:06

By the way I only said he must go back because he is a racist scum!

      Malcolm86 - 2011-12-14 09:13

Sad that someone actually likes that scum's comment. Get a life whoever you are!

  • Carol - 2011-11-03 09:22

the worst thing about these attacks is that the "youth" are being pushed to do these things and as minors there will be no jail time. What is this country going to become when these "things" reach the age to govern this country? Malema has so much to answer for the day he meets his maker!

      Mthuthuzeli - 2011-11-03 11:24

You mean the hungry 14 year olds shot and killed last month fishing on a farm.

      Dave - 2011-11-03 11:50

Maybe if there was not so much corruption in the government and the friends of the government the billions that have gone missing could have been spent were it should have and these two boys would not have fish for food.Wrong is wrong and should be punished, agreed.

      phumlanii - 2011-11-03 12:12

@DAve - So your statement justifies that the boys deserved to die because the state officials are corrupted and use the tax payers money for their own gain?

      Johan - 2011-11-03 12:34

...those 14 year olds were trespassing, ...and stealing fish.... ...they are criminals...

      Oneant - 2011-11-03 15:53

@Mthuthuzeli : Perhaps if those 14 year old's fellow countrymen where not raping and executing farmers, perhaps they would have not been the victim of a skittish farmer no?

  • Annalise - 2011-11-03 09:24

I am heartbroken, these are two of my extended family members.

      Marion - 2011-11-03 09:35

Sincere condolences to you and the family Annalise. No words to express how sorry I am.

      Annalise - 2011-11-03 09:42

Thanks Marion, their children were on the farm too. So awful !

      Marion - 2011-11-03 09:54

The fact that their kids were on the farm at the time explains clearly why they decided to go after them. I will take on anyone who threatens my children with my bare hands without a second thought. And if I die doing so, at least I will die knowing I tried my best to protect them from danger.

  • Chumscrubber1 - 2011-11-03 09:24

Sad, the guys should have given up the chase. Too many of us think we're bullet proof, we don't believe we'll ever get killed. (Myself included) Mate of mine was murdered when he caught a member of a gang and started sorting him out, unaware that it was a group of 17 - he was shot in the back of the head. Moral of the story - if the okes bolt, leave them, its no point risking your life chasing them. These people feel little for human life, don't give them an "excuse" to kill you. RIP, you guys did what you thought was right. The Lesotho gangs of stock thieves are notorious, the border has opened up nicely for them as well. Doubt the current regime is too concerned.

      Jason - 2011-11-03 09:28

That is the wrong attitude to have............There is an old and true saying which goes like this. "All it takes for evil to win, is for good men to do nothing" so which on are you?

      Kala - 2011-11-03 09:34

True Jay. But there is another saying. Don't take a knife to a gun fight. If you're out gunned then discretion is the better part of valour

      Grant - 2011-11-03 12:21

...and people wonder why farmers want to shoot trespassers? They are expected to wait to be shot at BEFORE they do anything to protect themselves!

  • Ancyl - 2011-11-03 09:32

Hmmm, well it could not have been ANCYL members cause they don't even speak Lesothen, or whatever it is they speak in that country.

      Marion - 2011-11-03 09:44

Flippant comment when life has been lost. Doesn't matter what political organisation they belonged to, or even if they were South African or not. What matters is that the farmer in SA is an endangered species and when people start really starving because no food is being produced then regret will set in and it will be way too late to do anything about the safety of the people who feed the nation. No one should complain about farmers while they are filling our bellies with the food farmers produce.

      Carol - 2011-11-03 09:44

just to let you know the Basotho nation speak sotho just like the man standing next to you, the difference between you and them is that they have pride in themselves not like their Z A counterparts - what bush did yoiu creep out from? - the easiest escape route for them was to cross the river from Z A into Lesotho no one said they were Lesotho citizens

      Moss - 2011-11-03 10:16

In Pedi we say "Ga bo lefyega ga go lliwe" meaning there is no crying at the coward's home, but the brave. How can you chase someone with a gun? are you crazy? Only Servan has the answers forsure

      ngonidzashe.chibamu - 2011-12-14 08:39

@Marion You overlook the fact that the ones who are actually killed are farm onwers, the real farmers are the workers who have feed generations and generations of your people across southern africa. There is substantial eveidence that there is extreme exploitation of farm workers by farm owners, and that is the reason why there is continual rampant killing of these people. Black people have not regained economic independence, and for sure the killing shall continue.

  • John - 2011-11-03 09:35

I was shot thrice in my house when confronting three armed robbers. Suffice to say, I survived and my family was unhurt but my experience is that these vermin don't hesitate one second to pull a trigger. Normal people still ponder over whether to take a life before making a decision but these sub-human dregs have no qualms in killing. If I had to do it all over again to protect my family, there would be no hesitation but I have enlisted the help of my friend, Mr.Glock, to assist in a similar situation. Bottom line is, if you're not armed or in a very favourable position to kill the fool, let it be. Condolences to the family in this very tragic time.

      Jeff - 2011-11-03 11:04

They just pull the trigger because they know that they are immune from prosecution. They also know that thgeir political masters encourage killings on whites. I wonder if there is a 'reward' offered for every white murder.

  • davieoosie - 2011-11-03 09:45

Shouldn't the government hold the Lesotho government accountable for this. It's an invasion isn't it. What would happen if I go and plunder let's say .. (sorry our neighbors have nothing left) take that back.

      Shumba - 2011-11-03 10:51

err no, actually it's not an invasion. an invasion would imply it was Lesotho armed forces doing the raiding at the bidding of the Lesotho government, which clearly is not the case here.

      Kevin - 2011-11-03 15:08

Our armed forces would be slaugtered if they crossed into Lesotho...that's why nothing will happen..we forget the hiding the SANDF got in Lesotho the last time!!!!!

  • tshepo.motha - 2011-11-03 10:03

This country is fulfilling the prophecy of matthew 24:7 "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom." The moment we seek Jesus in our lives things will change for the better. Racism will never solve anything we must just learn to live in harmony with one another, the very same blood that runs in our veins are of the same colour. Servaas u need to repent because u are insighting hatred amongst your brethren!

      Jason - 2011-11-03 12:26

@Tshepo, bro, I hear you, and I think your message is a righteous one, HOWEVER, Servaas is not the one inciting hatred amongst the brethren here, and on that note, it isn't any white person in SA that is inciting hatred here, unfortunately, it's the criminals in this country that are doing all the inciting, they bring the hatred upon themselves by relentlessly plundering, raping and killing the innocents in SA (White and Black), it just so happens to be that most of these sickly violent criminals are black... The root, I feel, of people's anger and hatred stems from the frustration that is felt amongst those of us that can see for real, what it is that's happening in SA and the fact that not only is no one (Government) doing anything about it, but that after a story like this one, you still have black people threatening white people with death in an open forum... Servaas asked a logical question, Why can Africans not keep their hands off stuff that isn't theirs? and he was immediately met with the threat of a bullet to the head. The moment the criminals in SA stop giving the innocents REASON to hate them the sooner the racial divide will fall by the wayside, and I can only hope and pray that that happens soon. I think it's far more accurate to say that some of our prominent leaders in SA are the ones inciting hatred, and enforcing the racial divide in this country of ours.

  • Freddy - 2011-11-03 10:11

Speak of a 'rainbow nation' with colours that will never mix! Everything is either black or white. what a shame!!!

      Van - 2011-11-03 13:39

Have still to see black in the rainbow.

  • Tim - 2011-11-03 10:13

A terrible reality that SA farmers face these days! @Servaas - please don't come back to SA, the fewer people we have with your views the better.

  • JMan - 2011-11-03 10:27

    First attempt at a land-grab?

  • Thulisa - 2011-11-03 10:34

These racist attacks are not on tune, these Lesotho guys, "the colour of the skin" not important, have entered someones' farm, tried to steal and then they shoot someone on the head, still injures someone else with an obvious intent to also kill them because if you aim in the chest then you're a murderer. You people still argue on who the farm belongs to!........ I am so ashamed. Let's not put the ANCYL into this, even they can't be blamed for our behaviour!

  • New - 2011-11-03 10:45

Listen people, am I the only one seeing that we all are just pawns of a sick game of chess in the political arena. Think for yourself, the ANC is losing support because of all their corruption and promises they cant keep. So whats the best way to get the supporters back? Use somebody like Malema to blow hate between the people of SA, there's no way they will vote for another party if they hate them. Judging to the comments I read here Malema has already succeeded.

      New - 2011-11-03 10:53

The best way for us to win this, is for us to give them the middle finger and start to see all the colors in life and not just Black and White. Come on people lets stand together and build a future for all.

      MaxOdin.SA - 2011-11-03 15:31

@new you dear sir/madam are not wrong. in fact you are spot on. The problem is though that it is hard to get through to someone who follows a person or party millitantly. We are on the brink of disaster and it's not yet too let to make ammends. The problem however is that there are not enough people standing up to the likes of Malema and his ilk, therefore the burden rests on the minority to try and fight the oppression. The thing that bugs me most is the direction i see this going in. There are people who turn on each other even in the face of possible genocide. In order to secure a prosperous future for all we need to stand together. Let it not be that those who speak ill of those who have the will to fight for our rights end up cowering behind the very people we spoke ill of. Let it not come to civil war, that is what i pray for.

  • Martin - 2011-11-03 10:56

This is the product of the armed struggle. Were the armed wings of the various freedom fighting groups (mkontu, apla etc) ever disarmed - answer is no!! Now the state sits with too many murderous maniacs armed to the teeth with no freedom to fight for but a gun in their hands. These guys even have more fire power than the police, hence the "Generals" shoot to kill order. Like the white people of today are feeling the after effects of apartheid, the whole of South Africa is feeling the after effect of the armed sturggle. In life what goes around comes around. This kind of behaviour is the African version of economic freedom - the right to take what you want when you want it regardless. They believe their leaders are helping themselves to the lands riches so why cant they.

      Mthuthuzeli - 2011-11-03 11:13

And slavery and colonialisation was the equivalent of western economic freedom? You lot have no shame.

      Hugo - 2011-11-03 15:36

      what is/was mkhontu?

      Jason - 2011-11-04 06:42

@Mthuthuzeli, Slavery? when were you EVER a slave in this country my friend? Oxford Dictionary definition of Slave: a person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them.

  • davieoosie - 2011-11-03 11:25

Update your facebook then Aisha, it says unemployed. You haven't answer my question. You are taking the robbers/killers side and would want to shoot Servaas. I also don't agree with some of his statements, but I don't want to shoot him or any other person making remarks about the white people. My argument is that racism comes from both sides, black and white, but it's only the whites that's getting blamed for it. Let's take race out of the picture, who's side are you on?

      Trudy - 2011-11-03 11:36

Serv-ASS is a racist. Finish. Being against him does not mean you are on the side of robbers/killers. It simply means you do not like his distasteful, hatefull and racist ramblings.

      davieoosie - 2011-11-03 11:52

Should someone be killed for being a racist? So killing is fine, just don't be a racist!

      Trudy - 2011-11-03 12:15

Not worth a comment. But no, neither racism nor murder is fine. Aisha was just expressing her disgust at Serv-ASS's hateful comments. Nobody is going to kill anybody

      Aisha - 2011-11-03 12:47

@davieoosie, is it really important to have my employment details on facebook? i don’t think so, coming back to the issue, i don’t know if you have seen servaas comments before?? there are white people in this forum who are sick and tired of his utterances, to make it simple to you everything to him is about black and white in essence he is a racist, what you need to do now is to pay attention to his comments.

  • Pieter - 2011-11-03 11:43

I could never understand why people are foolish and wreckless enough to put themselves in a situation where they basically know they have no chance at all. Two armed men are fleeing from you and you jump on a quad with no weapon at all and chase them? What did you think you were going to when you caught up? Tackle them and punch them in the face? It makes no sense. If someone threatens your life or the life of your loved ones then you protect them with everything you have in you. When you are just trying to be a hero or a toughguy you are being a fool. Use your head and get tactical. Even trained marines in the USMC won't blindly rush after enemies. Arm yourself, think the situation through, take cover, get to a position where you can dominate them and stay alive. That is how you protect and preserve yourself. Not by rushing at an armed man with your bare God damned hands. You are not strong. You are not tough. You are not a hero. You are just a human being that bleeds to death when punctured. Think for a moment beforeyou act. My thoughts are with the family and I am sad about this tragedy and loss of life. Whenever people are put to the test, I often hear them boast, "I would rather die." But do you think they honestly mean it? Life is precious. Throwing it away accomplishes nothing. What is the point in dying? You die, you lose. Forever. What the hell can you hope to protect when your feelings are the only weopons you've got?

  • Warwick - 2011-11-03 11:46

Steal and kill, this is all this barbaric nation knows and understands. If its there, take it. If a white man tries to stop you, kill him and rape his wife and daughters. In fact kill him anyway.

      Bitter - 2011-11-03 20:16

      couldnt have said it better!!

  • roboman1 - 2011-11-03 12:05

The real pity is that this kind of murder can continue, the real tragedy is the racist polarisation and steroe typing that follows a murder like this. I am a farmer, I paid top dollar, post 1994 for my farm, I employ people, feed and care for them, (and I mean really care for them), and I promise you, they would rather have me than Malema and his false promises, I place food on their table, medicine if they need it, care for them and their kids education etc etc, because the State barely provides any facilities for these people, so I take it upon myself to do this. We respect each other and work well together. But if some disgruntled criminal shoots me tomorow, there will be people on this site saying " good, another boer dies!" etc etc. Rubbish man, I am a hard working caring person, why should Malema be allowed to denigrate me at the expense of the poor, I guarantee you, I am doing more to uplift the poor everyday compared to Malema. And my workers would not even allow him onto my premises, but it does not stop some crook in the night to murder me, my wife or family. (and then get praise from the Malemas and Mugabes of this world?) Surely this is not right?

  • Jessica - 2011-11-03 12:10

when is this barbaric acts on the farmlands going to stop? The farmers are the ones feeding this country!

      Pieter - 2011-11-03 12:27

It will stop when farmers start laoding up their Glocks, .38 Specials, Benelli 12 guage shotguns and .308 rifles and light up every one of these demons that so much as sets foot on their land with a weapon. That is when it will stop. Farmers need to accept the fact that they are targets and they need to arm themselves and defend themselves. You can't trust f-all in this country. Self-defense should be their first priority and to this day they still neglect it.

      roboman1 - 2011-11-03 12:37

It will not stop with Glocks and Shotguns, it will stop when the ANCYL gets sensible and politically responsible leadership, it will stop when the leaders of RSA start promoting peace instead of killing. It will stop when we have a de-politicised police force. It will stop when our President starts locking people up for singing killing and hate songs, then only will it stop

      Pieter - 2011-11-03 13:44

Robo, you know that this crap has been going on for YEARS right? Not just since the ANCYK started inflaming things. It only now came into the public eye. The problem is far bigger than the leaders alone. Promoting peace does sweet blue f-all. When the majority of your country are criminal and have a criminal mindset then peace will only serve to get your thraot slit quicker. True power always comes at the point of arms. Look at the history of the world. The most powerful nation on Earth is the one with the most powerful military. That you cannot dispute. You are telling me that we just need to sit here and wait for some kind of miracle in our government that will save this failed country? That will never happen. It is too late. Never in the history of humankind has a nation stopped a downward spiral. NOT ONCE. Egypt, Rome, Greece, the list goes on. Once you start going backwards, it is over. "The future depends on the present. If the present has already failed, there is no future." Dalai Lama Try taking a peaceful approach when someone enters your home with firarms ready to rob and kill you. Try that. Liberalism will not save this country. By God, nothing will. Liberalism and rose-coloured shades are the downfalls of nations. I'm done here. No use trying to convince anyone that believes otherwise. None is as blind as he who refuses to see.

      Chris - 2011-11-03 15:02

@Pieter....I have been preaching this for years, the farmers should operate as if we are in a terrorist warzone..old Rhodesia comes to mind where housewives did laundry with the Uzi hanging from her hip...but most of these farmers are sitting ducks and do nothing to protect should have to be like this ..but unfortunately this is how they should live if they want to survive..shoot to kill.ask questions later...

      Pieter - 2011-11-04 11:06

You are right Chris. Yet people will deny this to the grave. The fact of the matter is that nobody is going to help us here. Not the government, not the police, nobody. We need to help ourselves survive and be self-sufficient. How the hell can we protect that which is precious to us with mere words and idealism? That's right, we can't. These demons care little for words, for peace, for life. They would sooner rape our women and put bullets in the back of our children's heads than listen to reason. They just do not understand civility. Fear... now that they can understand. Never will they attempt to attack something that puts the fear of God in them. Their targets are always unarmed, elderly, women, children, people in secluded areas, people who cnnot defend themselves and so on. Let them come across a barricaded home with rifles watching the windows, they run like the cowards that they are.

  • TrueBlue - 2011-11-03 12:37

What a terribly tragic country South Africa is! Murder, rape, corruption, graft, brutalisation and the list goes on. May God be with the family of these men at this this time, and may He give the nation insight and wisdom, as these are two elements that are sadly lacking.

  • Martin - 2011-11-03 12:53

Mthuthuzeli - Dude, you obviously learned to read but clearly not to comprehend. I said nothing to warrant your comment. My point is that violence causes more violence. Fummy how you bring up colonisation but conveniently forget how your tribe took the land from the Koi and San people by resorting to violence but when the same thing is done to you you moan and cry for 100 years. Just what LOT are you refering to? The thinking non violent part of our fractured society perhaps? Do you dispute the fact that the leaders of this country are helping themselves? Do you deny that crime and murder in particular is way to prevelant in a NORMAL society? Are you really advocating an eye for an eye for things you think you know happened 100 plus years ago? You are clearly filled so full of hate that you are blinded by it. We all know that more non white people are victims of crime in SA than whites. Whites are not the only ones effected by this curse. We as South Africans reardless of colour are all in the same boat but you think its cool to kill white people today because whites from 1652 onwards have colonised Africa. Murder, no matter the reason is wrong regardless of the colour of the perpetrator or victim is wrong and to an extent savage. It is my guess that evolution of the human species has stalled and your comments back up my sentiments.

      Mthuthuzeli - 2011-11-03 13:52

"This kind of behaviour is the African version of economic freedom - the right to take what you want when you want it regardless. ." Who has a documented history of this behaviour. By the way San and Khois are Africans. This lie and distortion has been perpetrated several times on these threads that I usually never respond to them. There have been migration of Bantu speaking Africans to the South since the early centuries, i.e it's not a new phenomenon. Mapungubwe alludes to this.

      Mthuthuzeli - 2011-11-03 13:57

The killing of Khois or Sans by Black Africans in the extremes of genocide is a "white" lie. Of all the paintings by the San or Khois, including their oral history, there is NOT a single painting depicted this called so called genocide.

  • Martin - 2011-11-03 15:22

Mthuthuzeli - whites are African too you know. I see you have selected only certain parts of my thread to answer but have ignored the quuestions I asked of you. History, as you well know is a subjective version of the truth. Take the history I learned at school, it was purely from the white man's perspective. Im sure pretty much the same as the history you know is from the black man's perspective. Bearing this in mind we should probably all shut our traps because none of us REALLY know the truth do we. All of that said it would be good if we could agree that murdering innocent people is wrong REGARDLES of who did what to whom way back when. But to answer you, could it be that the Black african tribes murdered the San and Khoi artists along with everyone else in the tribe hence the lack of artwork. Bear in mind that after a genocide there is little to nothing left of the group who were wiped out. I am not defending the white race at all because our history is full of events which do not exactly fill me with pride but the current crop of white South Africans were overjoyed to have a referendum unbanning the ANC and letting their leaders out of prison. We voted in an overwhelming majority to do this so why is it that we are hated by our black countrymen? Is this how it will continue for ever? Can we not just forgive and forget and stand together as law abiding citizens against the scourge of crime without getting our backs up against one another in racially divided camps?

      briantebogo - 2013-03-19 09:13

      We don't hate white people.
