Father sets self, kids alight

2012-02-12 16:58

Mahikeng - A 4-year-old North West boy died and his brother, 12, was burned when their father poured petrol over them and set them alight in Kopela village, police said on Sunday.

Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said the 40-year-old father appeared to have wanted to kill himself and the children. He was also burned in the incident at 22:00 on Saturday.

Neighbours tried to save the family, but the youngest boy died on the way to hospital.

The children's mother was working outside the province and was not at home at the time. The family's house was destroyed.

The father was under police guard in hospital and had been charged with murder and attempted murder, said Ngubane. His condition and that of his surviving son were stable.

      Nwabisa Sazola Wopula-Khaba - 2012-02-12 17:53

Mike he won't make a change

      Juan - 2012-02-12 18:12

No president can stop animals from being animals. We live among a very, very sick people

  • TaniaSandraSteyn - 2012-02-12 17:10

Please God. What a terrible fate for two you ones. He must be mad.

      Lyndatjie - 2012-02-12 17:38

You are right there Litha - there is no way in hell that this thing can be called father! Damn good point.

      Vermie - 2012-02-12 19:31

More like a case of sperm donor. Father is something more caring and protective.

  • Gary - 2012-02-12 17:31

This is terrible - what could be so bad that you have to kill your kids and then try and take your own life. Very sad - doesnt say much about the time in which we live.

  • Lyndatjie - 2012-02-12 17:37

There is a special kind of hell for this sorry excuse of a human being. I wish really bad things on him for the rest of his life.

      Vusi - 2012-02-12 18:10

It is so easy for us to sit here and judge other people. We have food, we have electricity, we have computers. What very few on these comment sections have, is a deep understanding of what the policies of the ANC are doing to desperate people. When life is a shack, no job to go to and money to feed your kids, you don't know where to turn any more, then at that point your only way out of this hell is suicide. Don't judge this man.............

      Lyndatjie - 2012-02-12 18:19

Vusi - I'm condemining his actions in the strongest sense of the word. If he wants to take his own way out of the hell that he finds himself then that is his choice.... but two innocent kids? Trying to kill them in the worst possible way? Remove yourself from the human race if you feel the need, but drop your kids off at a children's home, at a hospital, at a police station, at a relative, at a friend, in a shopping mall - but playing God over their lives and trying to kill them in the most agonizing way imaginable is contemptable. So - I will judge him because his actions are selfish and I'm sick and tired of trying to find excuses for people's introspective behaviours...

      alansmartSnr - 2012-02-12 20:28

It's a dispicable, inhuman and cruel thing to do. But there is no way of getting away from it, it is in their genes and we have to live with it. @ Vusi, you are just confirming it, and trying to justify it, you should call a spade, a spade. There can be no other excuse. The rule of a eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth should be imposed this inhuman thing should be burnt on a stake..and in public.!!!!

      Joe - 2012-02-12 23:36

@Vusi - don't judge him? Why not - he's a sick animal who killed his family in a cruel INHUMANE manner. Of course I'm going to judge him - no matter what you say.

  • Sharon - 2012-02-12 17:40

There is NOTHING this man can say that could possibly justify his action. How can setting yourself and your children alight seem like a good idea???

  • Bakang Mabone - 2012-02-12 17:59

This is where we as a country should be asking the Government for the death penalty... those are innocent little kids

      Ben - 2012-02-12 18:09

whilst I dont condone what he has done, I think he must have been desperate. We shall know when he has told his sad story. Sometimes your problems seem too heavy to bear, but he should not have harmed the children.

      Xolani King Radebeldinho - 2012-02-13 03:48

yes death penalty will solves many problems

  • william - 2012-02-12 18:07

  • Vegi - 2012-02-12 18:54

If you have respect for human life, no matter what kind of suffering you endure you can never take an unoffending life, especially young childen. He deserves punishment.

      Ben - 2012-02-12 20:39

Vegi, for once I agree with you.

  • Anton - 2012-02-12 19:09

Just proves once again that God does not exist. Keep the monster alive and lock him in a cell with pictures of his burned and dead children everywhere. He will take his own life sooner or later - a kind of self death penalty if you will.

      Grant - 2012-02-12 19:38

      Life is cheap nowadays

      Ben - 2012-02-12 20:49

God does exist but so does Satan.

  • Jan - 2012-02-12 23:08

This is tragic. How horrifying for the young ones, apart from physical scars, the surviving boy will have emotional scars. There can be no justification for this.

  • Durbanite88 - 2012-02-13 01:02

Bloody coward, why victimise innocent souls, if he was a loser, surely his boys were not, they had a bright future ahead of them..thought of this jerk turns my stomach.

      TaniaSandraSteyn - 2012-02-13 15:09

He may have killed the next President by taking his little one's life. Who knows what his path would have been if the father did not commit such a despicable act?

  • Xolani King Radebeldinho - 2012-02-13 03:46

Ths men deserve a death penalty

  • Gemma-Leigh Evans - 2012-02-13 05:41

Kill yourself if you want...its your life to do with as you please and people can recover and move on after. But to take the lives of children and in the most brutal manner is unforgivable!! Funny how the majority responsible for family killings is men. Personally I feel that can only be due to some men's misconception about therapy...GET HELP or go to hell, but leave others out of it! My condolences to their mother...I'd kill him if it were my children.
