Cape Town - A Brackenfell food packaging warehouse suffered extensive damage in a blaze which took firefighters eight hours to extinguish, the City of Cape Town's fire services said on Wednesday.

Firefighters responded to reports of a building in flames in Taurus Street at 19:00 on Tuesday, said fire services spokesperson Liesl Moodie.

"Eight vehicles with 35 firefighters were dispatched to the incident. The fire was contained and brought under control by 01:18 and completely extinguished just after 03:00 [on Wednesday] morning," she said.

"No injuries or fatalities were reported."

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Moodie said.

While the structure was still standing, the building itself suffered extensive damage, she added.
Police are investigating.
