Johannesburg - Five people, one of them a 3-month-old baby, died in a head-on collision on the N2 between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape traffic chief Kenny Africa said on Sunday.

A car was overtaking another car at 20:00 on Saturday, when it collided head-on with a truck, said Africa.

"Three men and the baby died on impact, while a woman, who was seriously injured, later died in hospital," he said.

The truck driver was seriously injured and was also taken to hospital.

onother car accindent again and again when will the honourable minister of trasport going to wake up ?

      mlungisi.botha - 2012-10-28 18:50

Hey Rasta man, you bin smokin' dat damn weed make you tink back to front jah man. What can any minister anywhere do if a driver decides to overtake onto oncoming traffic and kill he-self and his passengers?

      hendrik.verwoerd.94 - 2012-10-29 05:25

Yes Mlungisi, consistent argument what can Zuma do if someone murders or rob another person somewhere in SA. You get these crimes al over the world, not only in SA

The increase in traffic on our roads dictates that all national roads must be double lanes both ways. In this way accidents will be decimated. Of course, our government fails to repair potholes efficiently, never mind matching infrastructure to the burgeoning population. That is why we get messages to “drive safely” and “use less electricity”; which transfers responsibility from the government to its citizens.

It is time that the traffic authorities nailed the people traveling slower than the speed limit. it would then not be necessary to overtake.

What a terrible tragedy to have more life snuffed out on our roads. That stretch of road is very dangerous especially at night.

It is dangerous and I live very close to the scene of the accident. However what causes the accidents is the propensity for drivers to cross double white lines and overtake in the face of oncoming traffic. I see incidents of this every day on this section of road. What I have not seen in all the years of using this road daily is traffic patrol vehicles patrolling this section of road.

      brendon.nel.7 - 2012-10-29 06:13

Wher exactly was it? I lived in the area for 28 yrs and yip people sure love driving like tappits across there. Especially those with CA and GP license plates.

The accident occurred between the turn off to the Elephant Park and the Wolf Sanctuary.

On that blind rise by the wolf sanctury? What a shame. Local peeps?

    Signs of the end times

      andrez.kolesky - 2012-10-28 19:18

The only sign there as far as I can remember is "No Overtaking" on a white line ..... Condolences to the family and friends

      MallyGold - 2012-10-29 08:40

You are quite right Warren. The rampant population explosion by way of immoral copulation, outside of marriage without the associated responsibilities, has left in its wake an out-of-control birth rate exacerbated by the effects of extrapolated multiplication. We need you, Saviour.

      andrez.kolesky - 2012-10-29 08:56

@MallyGold. Excuse my ignorance, but what has this tragic accident got to do with screwing out of wedlock. Five people have died ... And not wanting to sound crass, they are indeed "screwed"
