Johannesburg - Five people have been killed in road accidents in the Free State in the past few hours, paramedics said on Friday.

Three were killed when their car overturned after a collision with another car on the N1, 45km outside Bloemfontein on Friday morning, ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said.

A passenger in this car and an occupant of the second car sustained serious injuries.

A man and woman were killed when two bakkies collided on the R26 between Reitz and Tweeling on Thursday night.

The man was flung from his bakkie and died on the scene.

The woman had to be cut from the wreckage of her bakkie. She died at a local hospital. Another two people sustained moderate injuries.
