Johannesburg - Five people were killed in a head-on collision on the N14 near Delmas in Mpumalanga on Sunday, paramedics said.

Emergency workers arrived on the scene to find two wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road, said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

"On assessment, paramedics found that five occupants had been traveling in the first vehicle while only one had been in the second vehicle," said Meiring.

Two bodies were found inside the first vehicle while a third person was in a critical condition.
Paramedics administered advanced life support to the injured person but he later died.

"The two other occupants had been ejected from the vehicle and had sustained fatal injuries," said Meiring.

The driver of the other vehicle was found slumped over the steering wheel in a critical condition.

He was treated on scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

"The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations," said Meiring
