Johannesburg - Slain rapper Nkululeko "Flabba" Habedi had wanted to marry his girlfriend, Sindisiwe Manqele, she said on Thursday at her murder trial.

Manqele testified on Thursday that she and Habedi had started speaking about marriage last year.

"He wanted to pay lobola this year in June," Manqele told the High Court sitting in Randburg.

She is on trial for the murder of Habedi after she fatally stabbed him three months before the lobola talks were carried out.

Manqele has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.

She told the court that she stabbed Habedi in self-defence at his Alexandra home in March.

According to Manqele, the rapper had manhandled, poked and stabbed her in the stomach.

She claimed that Habedi had called her a bitch and gold digger and accusing her of cheating on him because of his bad financial standing.

The trial continues.
