Fleeing robbers kill young Blue Bull

2012-11-05 08:42

Johannesburg - A promising young Blue Bull rugby player died at the weekend when robbers making a getaway crashed into his car near Komatipoort.

Nico van Vuuren and the three robbers in the other car died on impact, reported Beeld.

The accident happened at about 17:30 after the robbers’ Nissan 1400 bakkie crashed into Van Vuuren’s Toyota Hi-Rider following their getaway from town where they had robbed the butchery.

“The robbers were speeding away from town, over the stop street and Nico hit them on the side of the bakkie,” said his emotional father, Nico snr.

“My heart is so bitterly sore. My child is dead and he did nothing to deserve it. It is not fair, it’s just not fair.”

His son had played prop and hooker for the Bulls under-21 team and was to have studied for his Bachelors in agriculture next year.

A police spokesperson said R115 000 stolen from the butchery as well as two 9mm pistols were found in the bakkie.

The dead men had apparently been linked to several other crimes in the Lowveld.

Very very sad indeed, on the positive side the robbers died as well.

May the robbers have had a lot of pain and suffering before death, RIP Van Vuuren.

I sympathise with the loss of his life. He could have made u huge contribution to society during his lifetime. However, he did not die in vain. Three useless punks, I can not even describe them as animals, since animals have a use on earth, are no more a burden on the society on whom they parasited. I wish his family thebest, and may you receive strenghth during the difficult years ahead.

      JHLR73 - 2012-11-06 09:08

Hi Gerrit. I agree 100% with your comment. These vile parasites are making us to become very angry citizens!! We were told to nation build and to make South Africa the best place on earth to live in, but sadly with these scum running around, it is not possible. Its headed in an opposite direction. There is still troublesome times lying ahead in South Africa, it can not carry on like this. RIP Nico

I voted a thumbs down on your comment because saying he did not die in vain is callous and insensitive. What does his loved ones care about three pathetic robbers. His life was worth a hundred of theirs and empty platitudes like "he did not die in vain" show disrespect. That's why.

Ai ai, en Paul Harris dink nog ons land is cool!

  • mart.botha - 2012-11-05 09:12

Sincere condolences to the family, friends and the real people of this country who are gatvol of crime and the criminals who are destroying our potential. Until such time as the rights of the innocent are elevated to double that of the mutants who commit crime, we are fighting a losing battle. Criminals are a danger to society, a cancer that needs to be excised and removed so that society can focus on their daily struggle to survive on the straight and narrow..

  • zondra.hoffmann - 2012-11-05 09:21

If they don't get you on the farm they will get you somehow!! It is such an unnecessary situation we find ourselves in. There are more criminals - actually worse than animals - out there, and even our best efforts to protect our children and ourselves from these scumbags, will come to nothing. This is the result of a non-existent judicial system.

      steve.gibson.146612 - 2012-11-05 09:31

Yeh and they the criminals have all thge "Constituitional Rights" but it appears that the innocent victims are not granted the same rights. One only has to see the direction most rape cases take.

      Irene Kambouris - 2012-11-05 11:33

      Please don't insult animals Zondra

      mike.moja - 2012-11-06 08:48

      tasmee.hylkema - 2012-11-06 21:20

Condolences to the family. So sad that an innocent life was taken, a life that would have made a valuable contribution to society, and that was so full of potential. I disagree that the criminals should be considered "worse than animals", after all animals command our trust, protection and respect. They have a special place and purpose on this planet, and we need to co-exist with them. They make great contributions towards the eco systems, be it land or water. I am so tired of people constantly disrespecting our animals and equating them to common, non feeling, barbarians. Give the animals a break! Please!

Ek kry die Famielie baie jammer, my dogter se 1400 bakkie is so 4weke terug gesteel by n paneelklopper in Kempton park, ek hoop die mense wat dood is deur die dood van die jong man was dieselfde as die wat my dogter se voertuig gesteel het en dat dit haar bakkie was, dan alhoewel dit baie onnodig is en baie hartseer is was sy heengaan dalk n doel om hul stop te sit met hul roof en moord.

  • jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-11-05 12:06

Just another day in South Africa, where innocence is no longer a safeguard against the trash that rules here. May he rest in peace.

  • zanele.s.baqwa - 2012-11-06 10:12

Whoa are these robbers? I am not asking about poverty. Are they being identified by police who can then plan well driven and effective policing, or am I just wailing into the wind. If they can't handle it ask for asistance from friendly countries worldwide and learn. learn!

  • marlize.volschenk.35 - 2012-11-06 14:10

Why o Why? I just can not describe the feeling of hopelessness that’s descending over this beautiful country of ours. Lawlessness is the order of the day.
