Durban - A court has been shown chilling CCTV footage of a man repeatedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend in a KwaZulu-Natal shopping mall.

The footage was used to convict Skhumbuzo Shange, 30, of attempted murder, reported the Daily News.

The court heard that Shange had become angry when his girlfriend of 12 years, Zinhle Ngcobo, told him she wanted to end their relationship.

He went to see her at the Galleria shopping centre in eManzimtoti where she worked. Footage showed how he stabbed her at least eight times as they walked through the mall during her lunch break.

“If you couldn’t have her, no one else could. You wanted to kill her,” Prosecutor Krishen Shah said during cross-examination

Shange replied softly: “Yes.”

Shange has a history of violence and a protection order had also been issued against him in the past.

Ngcobo, who was stabbed in the chest and upper body, collapsed in the mall and was taken to hospital.

She survived the attack.
