Former ANC MP murdered near his farm

2012-06-11 17:48

Johannesburg - Former ANC MP David Dlali has been found murdered near his farm in Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, the party said on Monday.

Dlali was found dead on Monday morning, spokesperson for the Chief Whip's office, Moloto Mothapo, said in a statement.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of such a hardworking and committed servant of the people through a senseless killing."

Dlali served as a Member of Parliament representing Gugulethu between 2001 and 2009, before joining the ministry of women, children and people with disabilities as special adviser to Minister Lulu Xingwana.

"As an ANC MP in the National Assembly, he participated in various portfolio committees such as provincial and local government, minerals and energy and defence," Mothapo said.

Dlali was also a former underground operative of the African National Congress's armed wing Umkhonto we Sizwe.

Born on 23 January 23 1960, in Mount Frere, he served in various Western Cape provincial structures, including as a member of the provincial executive committee and chairperson of the Dullah Omar region.

"The law enforcement agencies must indeed leave no stone unturned to ensure that perpetrators of this heinous deed are caught and face the full wrath of the law," Mathapo said.

He extended the party's condolences to Dlali's family.

RIP another wasted life through a pointless killing and for what did they kill him, what possessions are worth taking a persons life.

  • hcduplessis - 2012-06-11 17:58

Because it is an anc MP,no stone should be unturned!bloody fools, one day the majority will open there uneducated eyes!

      Byron - 2012-06-11 18:18

"one day the majority will open there uneducated eyes!" - lol ah ... the irony ....

      ratsaka.eugene - 2012-06-11 19:24

I wish your children are reading this. So they see for themselves what kind of educated monsters are raising them.

      EricksonTL - 2012-06-11 21:08

The kind that condemn murder? Doesn't sound all that monstrous to me.

  • George - 2012-06-11 18:01

All available self defense mechanisms must be given to all farmers to continue farming in peace. This is totally appalling and needs government's FULL attention NOW. The government must resign if it cannot protect the lives of its citizens; the most fundamental right in the constitution.

  • delish7564 - 2012-06-11 18:03

So because he was an ANC MP, no stone should be left unturned. What about all the other farm murders, in fact what about all other murders regardless of where they occur? They are all equally important and should be dealt with regardless of race, color or political affiliation.

      Adam - 2012-06-11 19:21

Some farmers are more equal than other farmers. R.I.P.

  • chris.burgess.3150 - 2012-06-11 18:07

    another farmer gone...

  • veritas.odium.paret - 2012-06-11 18:08

    These farm attacks...

  • Honey - 2012-06-11 18:14

And although it is sad to see any Farmer murdered, I do notice a different level of outrage now that this is the senseless killing of a Black farmer. Yes cANCerous politicians, your cries of Kill the Boer will extend way beyond your land grabs and encouragement given to the likes of Malenema - you started this murderous rampage, now get it under control - or are your ignorant supporters beyond your control?

      Barefoot - 2012-06-11 18:38

there is an outraged reported because they knew him, if i get killed tomorrow i wouldn't expect an one government to come and condem my death! rather people who know me would do that and journalists don't follow unknow people- so stop your race issues murder is murder

      khotso.letsie - 2012-06-11 18:47

I think it has more to do with him being a former ANC MP than him being black... If that was the case, I think it wouldn't have even been news. Not everything is about race

      khotso.letsie - 2012-06-11 22:30

Oops, my apologies Honey. Thought you were replying to my comment. Guess ignorance truly is bliss, from the giving end anyway. Thanks for the heads up, Seymour. Truly sorry Honey.

      Barefoot - 2012-06-11 22:36

I use the word black in a non racial manner? really? I'll tell you this i don't care whether you are black or white but anyone who sees a difference being colour only and disregards other factors 'm not exactly a fan of. oh seems like you care a lot about color you went to view my Facebook profile (aliases i there for a reason i would like to referred to with it thank you), when i comment i just comment without checking out if the person posting is black or white- I'm really tired of every issue here being reduced to black/white by people who have a one track mind. yeah i acknowledge that most farm attacks/murders are on white people but factors such as their vulnerability, poor policing, whites being the majority of farmers and isolation make them easier targets yeah the government seems not to care and more must be done to protect them.

      Honey - 2012-06-11 23:05

@ Kotso - no problem! @barefoot - No, I don't use Facebook as a racial investigation tool - there you go again, trying to make this a racial issue when in fact the point I'm trying to make is one of security for ALL people which is low on the Government agenda. It pains me, as it does many taxpayers, to see money squandered on Parties, Planes, suspension on full pay's and thousands of other criminal acts whilst the police is lead by corrupt cronies and the boys who have to tackle crime on a day to day basis are treated with contempt by the criminals and their employees. Let's get another thing straight, I abhor the racists who use this site to incite and perpetuate racial hatred. NEWS24 being the worst offenders by publishing racially sensitive articles or by giving public platform to such morons. Finally, I couldn't give a sh*t whether a person is black, white, yellow or green provided they treat me with the same respect I treat them with. Some of my best friends are white. Some of my best friends are black. All of my friends are friends for who they are not for some label that society might want to stick on them

      Barefoot - 2012-06-11 23:29

Do you know why my last comment was like that because you said \. . . BTW barefoot, any\r\nidea what my Race is?\. anyway i reckon you didn't read my comment because our sentiments are the same from what i read now, i think you should read my last comment slowly without being defensive and confrontational before commenting again. i appreciate the fact that you are non-racial i must say i read your comment in a way that i didn't and still do not get the meaning fully i think but you also must read it and read my comment and not hurry to call anyone who might not agree with your ideas a moron because it shows lack of maturity- I'm not saying you are immature.

      seymour.howe - 2012-06-12 07:50

And there Gentlepeople we have it! Given intelligent, cooperative and willing people with common values and democratic viewpoints,It's very easy to learn to live with each other! It's just a pity that these people are not DA, ANC and FF people. Viva talking to each other! HONEY, KHOTSO AND BAREFOOT FOR PRESIDENT!

  • jomardl - 2012-06-11 18:18

Again. Another senseless death because of the government's failure to implement a rural safety policy. Disgusting.

  • gerrit.volschenk - 2012-06-11 18:23

How about leaving no stone unturned for all farm killings in this country not only members of the ruling party.

  • africanwolf - 2012-06-11 18:24

      emile.marais - 2012-06-12 05:40

lesetjam, in South Africa people condone murder if it suites their agenda.

  • thabojames.mohanoe - 2012-06-11 18:35

Mevrou Z im sure u hav a solution for these ideotic killings of the people who source food 4 us. Anc failed so after we vote 4 u,u must stop these killings. U must employ competent ppl om the police force n remove these comrates who are busy stealing tax payers money. Da is the answer people.

  • farmfreund - 2012-06-11 18:36

The country is bleeding, one of the few black farmers that made it, is gone now, his own people killed him.

      Nicolaas - 2012-06-11 19:03

@DOMFANNIE, are you really this stupid!!!!!!!!! Tell me who the hell kill farmers, the whites?, indians?, Koisan? Wake up your brainless rubbish, Malemmer was singing " Kill the farmer, kill the boer" and to black criminals, everything they see on a farm that is white, they have to kill. I am sure that these idiots did not know that the black guy was the owner, they thought he was one of the workers so to leave no witnesses, they killed him!

      Abby - 2012-06-11 19:48

This farmer happens not to be a settler, he was a freedom fighter so make your own obvious conclusions.

      farmfreund - 2012-06-11 20:08

Fannie , first he is in a remote rural erea where mostly black people live, 100% of farm murders proven guilty is black i used my commen sence on this one, SA is bleeding

  • rasthami.m1 - 2012-06-11 18:47

RIP to comrade dlali hope that the pepetrators are brought to justice Well to everyone bringing race unto this matter really is shameful that they is such people lurking in our community well you aren't constructive but suppressive of peace and justice

      Andrew - 2012-06-11 18:55

Agreed. Violent crime to anyone in our cummunity is a loss to us all. We keep forgetting to fight crime in this country. We need stop pointing fingers and work for a future together.

      Mike - 2012-06-11 19:18

The man was probably a father, husband and race has nothing to do with this. It's simply a disgusting tragedy and highlights the fact that certain members of our society ie farmers are very soft targets because they live on large areas of land where there are no witnesses or people to come to their aid in a hurry and I don't care whether he was black or white or his political affiliation.....he was a human being who deserved to live his life out with dignity.

      azaad.hayat - 2012-06-12 00:20

yes comrade, pity these characters are harping on race. David was truly a unique being.

      emile.marais - 2012-06-12 05:49

Murder is murder. End of debate. People die, and for what? Why is life so cheap? It is sick beyond believe that life is so valueless. This was a farm attack and the ethnicity of the victim does not matter. What I hate is the hypocrisy of the South African public when it comes to farm attacks in general, some people actually condone the murder of farmers in this country.

  • margaux.doeebrahim - 2012-06-11 18:53

yep. leave no stone unturned... what about us ordinary folk??? is law enforcement going to leave no stone unturned when something happens to us normal people or do you have to someone important?

      emile.marais - 2012-06-12 05:52

We are the 99% We have to fend for ourselves unfortunately.

  • Nicolaas - 2012-06-11 18:57

The law enforcement agencies must indeed leave no stone unturned to ensure that perpetrators of this heinous deed are caught and face the full wrath of the law," Mathapo said. Now will you ALL NATIONAL CRIMINAL PARTY do the same call when innocent children, woman, and law abiding citizen is murdered and raped in their homes too! This call is always made when it is a suppota that is murdered but not law abiding taxpayer citizens!!!!

  • Andrew - 2012-06-11 18:59

These farmer murders are real to the saying \you bite the hand that feeds you\

  • joe.farmer.92775 - 2012-06-11 19:17

any chance of inviting juliarse to sing "kill the farmer" at the funeral?

  • tshandazenzile - 2012-06-11 19:20

Bring back the one is safe.

  • siyanda.myende - 2012-06-11 19:34

It's so sad how people are using this to paddle their hateful thoughts. What's even more sad is that you spew this to your children and then you wonder why this country won't get over race. A man has died! What's wrong with people?!

      CharlesDumbwin - 2012-06-11 19:37

Because farm attackers are evil animals, that's what's wrong with this country.

      andile.tyhaliti - 2012-06-11 21:43

Indeed criminals do not care whether you black, white, pink etc. Even myself I feel terrified walking alone at night in my own neighbourhood. Let us stand together to fight this evil scourge and stop racializing everything.

      johan.louw.180 - 2012-06-11 22:23

Thank You my fellow human and compatriot. Murder is murder and sane people like you gives me hope for our future. Lets hope that these sick people grow up someday. It saddens me that so many people use every event and oportunity to spread hatred.

  • WitWolf - 2012-06-11 19:41

"The law enforcement agencies must indeed leave no stone unturned to ensure that perpetrators of this heinous deed are caught and face the full wrath of the law," Mathapo said. All because he was a part of the anc. Never happens with other farmers....

  • judith.taylor.56 - 2012-06-11 20:08

So killing people who produce food for the community is the thing to do? Are our criminals intent on genocide?

  • peter.mokoena.31 - 2012-06-11 20:18

Sadly a loss of life to any conscious person does not signify colour.Condolences to family and next of kin. I pity those of you who overlook the tragic end of a fellow human being in ecxhange of some myopic, selfish ideology. Some people just got to news commentaries to plant more hatred. Somehow I wonder how some of you treat, ur gardeners, labourers, helpers and fellow colleagues. Time will tell of seeds planted.God bless and cleanse your souls.

  • Adil Smit - 2012-06-11 20:28

Senseless crime taking another life. Condolences to the family.

  • Carel de Lange - 2012-06-11 20:38

Oops, sorry ANC! That one backfired! Still, even with some collateral damage murder is booming especially on the predetermined soft targets. Business as usual, carry on!

  • lynn.syme.1 - 2012-06-11 20:44

Oh... he must have treated his workers terribly! I wonder, did he pay them? What were their living conditions like etc etc. *yawn*

      stefan.vanhuyssteen - 2012-06-12 06:31

was it about wages? If anything was stolen , then will it be farm attack or just \theft\ ?

      Koos - 2012-06-12 12:52

Maybe he was shagging his worker's wifes. Who knows.

  • Juan - 2012-06-11 20:54

Well hopefully the ANC will now start giving the farm murders the attention it deserves

  • Gerald Jordaan - 2012-06-11 21:22

Terrible news!! However it is Interesting to note the sentiments expressed in this case...have not heard or seen similar comment when a white non ANC farmer is murdered!!

      WitWolf - 2012-06-11 22:35

@danny.kangausaru There you go racial again. I told you everything that happens is the whites fault. What? Is it apartheid's fault again?

      Emile Myburgh - 2012-06-11 22:35

      Really Danny?

not everyone who was murdered on a farm was a farmer

  • Sagin - 2012-06-11 23:41

What blatant lies. when last did the anc turn over a stone to fix or solve anything? they might talk about it or talk about talking about it, but unless they think they can steal some money from under it. they aint going to lift a finger.

  • azaad.hayat - 2012-06-12 00:31

so sad to see such a great fighter for freedom leave us so abruptly. Thanx for having been present in my life comrade dlali.

  • annie.kalahari - 2012-06-12 01:07

Very little detail about this murder, which is very sad.

  • emile.marais - 2012-06-12 06:05

Another South African murdered. The red in our national flag is very apt.

  • Vince.York - 2012-06-12 06:59

Can these farm murders be the blatant official desire of the current ruling regime, they way they accept it all without blinking? UNACCEPTABLE

  • Jack - 2012-06-12 07:47

Finally. a zot farmer is murdered. Oh wait, they cam farm?

  • Nyiks11 - 2012-06-12 08:08

Is this classified as just another farm murder or friendly fire ?

  • Keith - 2012-06-12 08:42

  • lerato.kay.3 - 2012-06-12 08:51

It’s a sad reality that murder is the norm in SA not only farmers are attacked by people from all walks of life imagine the number babies being killed per year in SA! Yet some narrow people want to turn these murders to some stupid fantasy calling farm murders genocide, how do you explain this the guy was black so is it still genocide. My point is farm killings are unfortunate but they are just random attack being targeted because they are isolated and vulnerable. So please get over yourself and stop fantasising these killings labelling them genocide.
