Former SABC man dies

2012-11-14 21:41

Johannesburg - Former SABC newscaster Christopher Dingle, 66, has died at home in Orange Grove, Johannesburg.

A close friend of his, Robert Blair, said it appeared that he died of an asthma attack on Tuesday.

The Zambian-born Dingle was a well-known broadcaster in the early years of South African television and presented a programme on Radio Today and for Radio South Africa.

He earned the unusual distinction of being the first presenter to say "fuck" on South African television. He was under the impression he was off-air at the time.

Since retiring from broadcasting in the early 1990s, he had worked as a website manager.
