Johannesburg - Four men were arrested in Welkom on Friday for possession of suspected stolen goods, Free State police said.

Police, acting on a tip-off about people who were selling electrical appliances in the Welkom CBD, arrested four men in a car in Bok street, Sergeant Puleng Motshoeneng said.

Police found a DVD player, a plasma television set, a hi-fi system, digital cameras, remote controls, ladies' handbags as well as police issue pepper spray.

Motshoeneng said the men, aged between 21 and 28, were taken into custody when they could not account for the goods.

They will appear in the Welkom Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a charge of possessing stolen property.

What bull is SUSPECTED stolen goods? The goods are either KNOWN to be stolen or not. No one has to account to the ignorant POLICY ENFORCERS for goods in their possession. POSSESSION is nine tenths of the law! The police must prove the goods to be stolen! not to make assumptions! It is unlawful search and unlawful arrest to do otherwise.
