Johannesburg - Four people were injured when a taxi crashed into an excavator outside the Khutsong graveyard in Carletonville on Tuesday morning.

The municipality's Chris Spies said that an excavator was parked next to the graveyard when the taxi crashed into it, breaking the taxi's front window.

''The passengers bumped their heads inside the taxi,'' he said.

ER24 paramedic Russel Meiring said a seven-month-old girl was among the four hurt, but "fortunately no-one had sustained any serious injuries''.

Paramedics took them to Carletonville Hospital for further attention.

Spies said excavators were often used used to dig grave, but that in this case, the excavator belonged to a private contractor doing work outside the graveyard.
