Johannesburg - Four men were arrested when they were found in possession of 14 stolen sheep, police in Ventersburg, Free State, said on Sunday.

Warrant Officer Malebo Khosana said police pulled over a bakkie pulling a trailer en route to Senekal. It was alleged the sheep were being taken to Lesotho.

"The trailer had a load of a number of sheep and one sheep was at the back of the bakkie with two male passengers," Khosana said.

When asked, the driver could not specify who the sheep belonged to or provide the documents for the stock.

"[The men] were arrested and charged for possession of suspected stolen items. The Nissan 1400 bakkie and sheep were confiscated."

The men were aged between 26 and 52. Two of them were Lesotho nationals.

They would appear in the Ventersburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
