Free State rapist gets life in jail

2013-04-09 16:25

Johannesburg - A man has been jailed for life for raping and robbing a 56-year-old woman at Kutloanong in Odendaalsrus, Free State police said on Tuesday.

"Thabang Sefatsa was found guilty as charged by the Welkom Regional Court. He was recently sentenced to life imprisonment," said police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng.

Sefatsa was arrested on 1 October 2011 after he had raped a woman at knife-point in her home.

He stole her jewellery and fled the scene around 03:30.

The woman told police she knew Sefatsa and led them to his home.

He was arrested and charged on the same day.

"On arrival, she pointed to the suspect and the 24-year-old was arrested for rape," Thakeng said.

Free State Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khehla Sitole, said he was proud of how the case had been handled.

He said this would give the public more confidence in the police.

"I believe this case has brought confidence in the public about Odendaalsrus SAPS members because when a case was reported they did not hesitate to arrest the suspect."

Sadiki I agree, as I said a bit upwards "Atleast he is not out there raping, one good point atleast."

Well done SAPS. No leave him to go to jail where he can get back exactly what he has been jailed for seeing there isn't a death penalty. 24 years of age...very sad.

But the FB rapest and killer just got his sentance reduced. What the hell! Cut all their privates off!

  • Emmanuel Mahlobo - 2013-04-09 17:11

isn't there a way that the state can make these convicts repay for for their mistakes, than making the to live half of their lives behind bars at the expense of the tax payers? It's not like they are not fit for work.

Now THAT is how you deal with rapists. Lock 'em up and toss the key away!! Well done to all concerned.

  • Sue Heymans - 2013-04-09 19:57

Commisioner Sithole, well done that's how you do it! Thank you Free State Police!!!

  • Morne de Swardt - 2013-04-09 19:59

great - his jail buddies must beat him up!!

  • AndrĂ© Smit - 2013-04-09 20:37

Life sentence? What is that exactly? Will he remain locked up for the rest of his life...or will he be out within ten? Life sentence is a very loose term...and a very misleading term to use...

  • MallyGold - 2013-04-09 21:56

Was he not arrested in Oct 2011? Well it's 2013 now and we're saying well done?? Surely we should be questioning the bungling of our judicial system.

Have more confidence in SAPS? How so, they did nothing, the victim gave them the rapists address and pointed out who he was. SAPS did nothing but do the arrest. No brain work needed.
