From tears to cheers as man gets new bike

2012-05-30 16:07

Cape Town – A 26-year-old man who lost his beloved bike in a fire couldn’t believe what he was seeing when Honda Kyalami presented him with a brand new motorcycle.

Chengetai Chauke lost his motorcycle that he bought just a month and a half ago in an informal settlement fire in Woodlane, Pretoria.

But when a news report of Chauke's loss caught the attention of News24 users, among them Honda Kyalami owner Craig Langton, he was soon supplied with a new Honda Ace 125cc motorbike valued at nearly R9 000.

Chauke told News24: "I'm so happy and praise God for what Honda has done for me."

He said he valued his lost bike more than any other possession and was heartbroken when it was destroyed.

Chauke also received a helmet, gloves and biker's jacket from TRP Distributors.

In addition, he will receive training at the Honda Academy.

      TheyTookMyNickLaZynEko - 2012-05-30 17:17

yes as a scooter driver I can vouch for the advice Gregory is giving, not only taxies but also any other vehicles on the road as well as pedestrians need to be kept a close watch on so as to not end up in an accident! Practice safe driving everyone!

great story, not bad idea from honda either. R9000 is small price to pay for such great advertising. Good stuff all round.

      Peter - 2012-05-30 16:23

9000 is also a small price to pay for making somebody really happy. No doubt Craig feels great too.

      Andile - 2012-05-30 16:40

Lol bra great advertising strategy indeed. But for all its worth, great initiative by Honda. I hope from here onwards life can only get better for the dude

  • bearpup - 2012-05-30 16:23

  • dulile.sowagahlubikalangalibalele - 2012-05-30 16:24

Wish I could hear more such news for the next week or two to erase the anger of The Spear, and it's related social ramifications.

      Hugh - 2012-05-30 16:59

Oh Grow up. Acts like this happen everyday but people like you and the rest refuse to take note.

  • ryno.colyn - 2012-05-30 16:24

this made my day! so good to hear this instead of another article about a useless painting.

  • Kobus - 2012-05-30 16:24

Bad news; sad news; horrible news; terrible news; depressing news; and of late, scandalous news ... for months and months on end. And now, this very special moment for Chengetai, all the readers of News24, but also the entire South Africa. Honda Kyalami, you Guys rock!

  • lildave101 - 2012-05-30 16:25

Wishing him many miles of pleasure and prosperity.. hopefully it helps him get an awesome stream of income.. lets hope the other shack dwellers who also suffered losses will get some public support too!!

If each of us could save just one soul from hunger, unemployment, illiteracy, etc, South Africa would be a great place. Never mind what you know who couldn't do. We are doing great by ourselves.

  • Rebecca - 2012-05-30 16:41

Now this is the South Africa I know, not that propaganda hated of the ANC trying to divide the country, but people working together to help. Viva SA, Viva

  • pacmanza - 2012-05-30 16:43

faith restored in humanity ! :D

  • Richard - 2012-05-30 16:45

this bike should have gone to sa citizen

      Theo - 2012-05-31 09:30

Why Richard? South Africans sit and wait for handouts and don't want to work. This man bought this bike to help him get to work.My gardener is a Malawian and he works very hard and I trust him totally. My friend runs a Landscacaping Business and her South African team leader hardly ever pitches for work on a Monday and when he does he has a hangover and does little if any work.Change your attitude and your life will change.

  • Erich - 2012-05-30 16:49

This guy's initial sceptisism is understandable. Luckily there were no MEC's (who promised the poor kid who was injured when the MEC's official vehicle skipped a red traffic light) or the late Oom Piet Promises involved.

  • nikondaniel - 2012-05-30 16:53
