Johannesburg - A 67-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his 6-year-old stepdaughter in Tembisa, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

The girl's mother was alerted to the crime by a neighbour who said the child had opened up to her, said Constable Tebogo Sesing.

"The girl had apparently gone to the neighbour's house and told her that her private parts were sore."

Her mother took her to hospital and later laid a charge of rape against her stepfather. The man was arrested on Monday and would appear in the Tembisa Magistrate's Court soon.
