Johannesburg - The Goodman Gallery security guard arrested for assaulting the man who damaged The Spear painting will appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Paul Molesiwa from Core Tactical, a private security company, who was out on R1 000 bail, last appeared in court in May.

He is charged with attacking Louis Mabokela who defaced artist Brett Murray's painting of President Jacob Zuma with exposed genitals.

Molesiwa's lawyer, Rod Montano, said his client was the second guard trying to restrain Mabokela.

"The guards were briefed that morning [about] bomb threats and death threats at the gallery. It is our contention he was doing his job."

Leave the guard alone. He did nothing wrong!

Just an opinion because I was not there, BUT unless South Africans start uniting and saying NO to crime and criminals, security matters in this country are just going to get worse. Was the guard in any doubt that this person was guilty of committing a crime. If his answer to this is 'NO, No DOUBT AT ALL,' and there is further evidence to prove it, then the guard in my opinion was justified in subduing him. If criminals wish to avoid being hurt, they must immediately assume a prone position on the ground with his hands being his head. This submissiveness must be sufficient to avoid what I call a justifiable beating. Should the guard have attacked a suspect who has submitted in said fashion, then yes, throw the book at him.

Give that guard a bells. I was impressed to see this guy was well equiped for the takedown and definitely saw some martial arts training. You say lock him up I say give him a promotion.

The guy resisted arrest, the security had trouble getting the cable tie around the guy's wrist... If you come in a destroy private property and you can't put your hands immediately behind your back then come on expect the worst and being pushed up against the wall or floor is the correct procedure cos you are a security threat.

I thought the guard was very well trained and was certainly just doing his job. If the vandal did not resist detention so violently with the fight he put up to avoid being detained. The guard would NOT have needed to act in the manner he did. Mabokela brought it upon himself, don't complain now. All actions eleicit some re-action.

South Africans we must march together if this security guard is found guilty, who was only doing his job as any SAPS member would have done under the circumstances They say that he attacked Louis Mabokela but all that he did was to restrain Mabokela who was clearly in defiance of what he has been paid to do & that is to secure the property of the gallary We need more police, traffic officers & soldiers like him to restrain all these marchers & wrong doers in South Africa to return this country into the once disciplined and respecable people that we were. Our police, soldiers, nurses, doctors, teachers, workers and students never thought of destabilising this beloveth country of ours because our very livelyhood depended on it & we would fight with our lives for it. Those days seems so long gone, that today we live on what little gets offered to us & shutup or be termed racists . I pray that more ANC leaders read Martin Luther Kings autobiography & try and follow his footsteps more especially try and follow his dream of amencipating all the down trodden (black , white, coloured and indian alike) who were the previuosly disadvantaged not only blacks The ANC must remember one thing & that is, ' not one single race has ever conquered & retained that might of rule over others for ever, there will come a time when your laws will be your downfall by the very same people that you wanted to gain that power for, look at history & therein lies your answers,GOD is not asleep just waiting
