Pietermaritzburg - Descendents of Mahatma Gandhi visited the Pietermaritzburg Railway Station on Sunday to mark the 122nd anniversary of when Gandhi was evicted from a train in Pietermaritzburg in 1893.

Grandchildren Ela Gandhi and Arun Gandhi were guests at the commemoration held by the Pietermaritzburg Gandhi Committee.

The event’s guests included Consul General of India Rajagopalan Ragunathan, eThekwini speaker Logie Naidoo, Msunduzi municipal speaker Babu Baijoo, Chief Whip Truman Magubane, eThekwini Metro speaker Logie Naidoo and an American tour group on a Gandhi Tour in South Africa.

Arun Gandhi, based in America, is leading the group of tourists across South Africa on a Gandhi legacy tour.
