Johannesburg - A man was arrested in Kempton Park on the East Rand for being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the 56-year-old man's house around 16:00 on Saturday, said Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng.

Police searched the house and found a safe containing eight illegal firearms, including four rifles and a shot-gun, and 4 500 rounds of ammunition.

Police seized the firearms and ammunition and arrested the man.

The man will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court soon, said Mokheseng.

It is true that if the police went on a massive operation into the squatter camps they would find much more fire arms and stolen property, but they are too scared to do that.Or they are doing it on purpose and targeting white people to disarm us.It is shocking how easy it is to find some one that is willing to sell stolen goods and firearms to you especially in those areas.

Unlicensed firearms are illegal, whether in the hands of black man or a white man. No race issue here.

What is the story here? Contrast this piffling hoard with what the ANC still has hidden away - 60 - 100 tons of small arms and ammo, hidden in caches all over SA! All quite illegal and the ANC, to this day, will not reveal where the stuff is, who possesses it or has access to it or looks after it! You have to ask hard questions when a government in power refuses to divulge information about it's private armory or even to show how such illegal munitions have been disposed of! Also compare to the 26 000 weapons "lost or unaccounted for" by the SAPS and SANDF over the past few years. This is nonsensical propaganda by the SAPS, to appear to be doing something about 'crime', when, in all likelihood, this man has owned these weapons for years, legally under previous laws and has never committed any crime with them!
