Germiston hospital opening delayed

Johannesburg - The new Germiston Hospital is still not ready to be opened, despite promises that it would be completed by October last year, the DA said on Monday.

"It is very disappointing that the opening has been delayed as this new hospital is vitally needed. The department should become more efficient so that it meets its own deadlines," said Paul Willemburg, the DA Member of the Provincial Legislature.

Willemburg said he visited the site recently, and builders told him it would probably take another month to complete.

He said according to the Gauteng health department's third quarterly report, the hospital was 85% complete at the end of December last year, and Information Communication Technology still had to be installed.

Department spokesperson Simon Zwane said contractors were busy with the final work.

"We believe we are on course," he said adding that the hospital could not be opened without necessary equipment in place.

When contracts over run their deadline, the common practise is to include penalties for the account of the contractor. Who is paying for the delays? What is the cost impact in terms of human lives and suffering because of the delay this article is about.

"we on course" what course are you on buddy???????? 5 months later you are all a joke, don't not know the meaning of being on time with anything you promise the people.

Daleen, "CheekySod" gee net `n stelling, wat volgens die normale regulasie en vereistes vir konstruksie is. Is jy nou kwaad vir hom, of weet jy nie regtig iets van die bou bedryf regulasie?

How can you be on course when you are 5 months over the date...IDIOT. The contractors should now be fined and charged as its them that sets the deadlines. Does it take the DA to try and sort this out what has happened to the ANC..another botch up from their side. Time means nothing as long as at the end it looks nice. Give the hospital 2 years and it will look like a state hospital..I know I am working in a newish hospital and slowly going that way. Its BEE deluxe and whatever they run turns to nothing.
