Gibbs dumped wife by SMS

2008-06-30 08:19
Cape Town - While his estranged wife describes him as a compulsive liar who becomes emotionally abusive when he drinks, Herschelle Gibbs has been seen with a pretty cheerleader in England.

Gibbs, 34, apparently met the woman at a game in Hyderabad.

They were seen together frequently in England, where he currently plays cricket.

His agent has denied this and says no third party is responsible for the pending divorce from Tenielle.

Gibbs has said he was very sad over the end of his marriage and claimed that he had thought for a long time that it could work, despite the pressures of his life as a professional sportsman.

His soon-to-be ex Tenielle, has said that Herschelle would humiliate her in public. This broke her down emotionally. She said she still loved Herschelle and had not married him for the money. He had hurt her terribly, she said.

It was not the first time that he had left either. Earlier he had also broken off their engagement, she said.

"He left me then, and now he has left me again. Nobody knows what I had to go through the last four years", she said, visibly upset.

Herschelle told her he wanted to divorce her via an SMS in May. Since then they have not had contact.

She initially claimed maintenance of R100 000 a month, but the couple agreed on a smaller interim amount.

She said they had a luxurious and extravagant lifestyle due to the money he made by playing cricket. Their first home in Green Point is being sold for R5.2m. She said Herschelle thought nothing of spending R50 000 in an afternoon on furniture and art.
